The Toronto Blue Jays and Cleveland Guardians wrap up a three-game set this afternoon as both clubs continue to trend in opposite directions. Toronto has lost five straight games and occupies last place in the AL East while Cleveland has won four straight and holds a 7.5-game cushion atop the AL Central.

The streaking Guardians will look to finish off the sweep as they face off against Jays starter Yusei Kikuchi, who’s in the midst of his worst run of form this season. Find out if the hosts can complete the sweep in my Blue Jays vs. Guardians predictions and MLB picks below.

Blue Jays vs Guardians prediction

My best bet
Guardians team total Over 4.5 (+105 at PROLINE+)

My analysis
It was business as usual for the Cleveland Guardians on Saturday as they got two RBI apiece from Jose Ramirez and Bo Naylor to cruise to a 6-3 win against the Toronto Blue Jays.

Cleveland’s offense, tied for third best in the majors at 5.04 runs per game, has been even better of late. Led by Canadian-born Naylor, who’s picked up a team-leading nine RBI over the last four games, the Guardians have scored 6+ runs in each of their last four outings while averaging 6.75 runs per game over that span.

Jays starter Yusei Kikuchi will hope to slow down Cleveland’s potent offense, though he hasn’t had much success over the past month. The southpaw was rocked for seven hits, four homers, and five earned runs in just four innings in his last start on June 17 against the Red Sox. Kikuchi has surrendered 5+ earned runs in three of his last five starts, putting up a brutal 6.17 ERA through that span.

Kikuchi hasn’t been the only one at fault, though, as Toronto’s pitching and defense have fallen off a cliff during the club’s five-game skid. The team has allowed 6.2 runs per game during the losing streak and that trend will likely continue against a surging Guardians squad on Sunday.

Blue Jays star player prop

My best bet
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Over 1.5 hits (+162 at PROLINE+)

It’s been a rollercoaster season for Vladimir Guerrero Jr., who’s had plenty of ups and downs already through the first three months. Fortunately for the Jays, Vlad is currently on an upswing after going through a four-game hitless drought earlier this month.

While Guerrero Jr. went 0-for-4 on Saturday, he’s still recorded at least one hit in five of his last seven contests and multiple knocks in two of those games. The Jays slugger is also batting much better against right-handed pitching (.290) compared to lefties (.240) this year, and he’ll have a chance to continue that trend against Guardians starter Triston McKenzie.
