Blue Jays vs Red Sox Prediction, Picks & Odds for Today’s MLB Game

The Red Sox caught fire in their first Fenway Park series of the year, culminating in an 18-run beatdown of the Cardinals on Sunday. The bats will be in full swing again tonight as the Blue Jays and rookie hurler Easton Lucas come to town.

The Toronto Blue Jays took their sweet time, but they finally have a contract extension in place for superstar Vladimir Guerrero Jr. — and that’s a timely boost ahead of tonight’s series opener against the Boston Red Sox.

While the 14-year, $500M deal doesn’t erase a fruitless weekend at the plate for the visitors, who were swept by the New York Mets, my Blue Jays vs. Red Sox predictions expect better production here to keep pace with a Boston offense that’s on a scorching hot streak.

Blue Jays vs Red Sox prediction

My Blue Jays vs Red Sox best bet: Over 8.5 (-120 at Caesars)

While the Toronto Blue Jays are looking to rebound after managing just three runs against the New York Mets this weekend, there was no such power outage for the Boston Red Sox, who ran amok in their first home series of the season.

Boston took apart St. Louis Cardinals starter Miles Mikolas last night in a runaway 18-7 victory, with Alex Bregman and Rafael Devers combining for nine RBIs, and the hosts have racked up 46 hits across their last three contests.

That spells trouble for Easton Lucas, Toronto’s inexperienced starter. It’s a huge ask for him tonight at Fenway Park in just his second career outing, and he’s one reason why the Over 8.5 jumps out as a value play here. Editor's note: Jose Berrios will now start this game with Lucas shifting to Tuesday.

The Red Sox send Richard Fitts to the mound, and he’s no sure thing either, with just five starts under his belt. He caught the eye with his performances in the final weeks of last season but gave up two homers against the Texas Rangers last weekend.

This could be a nice bounce-back spot for the Blue Jays against their AL East rivals. The visitors went 2-for-21 with runners in scoring position in their three games against the Mets, but I’m banking on a reversal in fortunes as they take on Fitts.

Four of the last seven matchups between these teams in Boston have hit the Over, and the Red Sox are riding a five-game winning streak, scoring 5+ runs in four of those contests. The bats should make the headlines again tonight.

Caesars QuickPick: Our Blue Jays vs Red Sox same-game parlay (SGP)

Over 8.5

Easton Lucas Under 3.5 strikeouts

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Over 0.5 RBI

I’m doubling down on a high-scoring game and taking the Under on Lucas strikeouts, with the line at 3.5. Everything fell into place for the lefty in his debut against the Washington Nationals last week, serving up five scoreless innings of work, but he finished with just three strikeouts and left after 74 pitches.

Pitching on the road for the first time in the majors, this could be a shorter start against a Red Sox lineup that smashed 10 runs inside the first three innings last night. Expect any mistakes to be ruthlessly pounced upon.

In the spirit of both teams’ big hitters showing up, give me a Vladimir Guerrero Jr. prop as well. If there was a collective sigh of relief among Blue Jays fans when the Guerrero extension news broke, it has to be a weight off Vladdy’s shoulders, too.

He’s off to a slow start in 2025, with a .256 batting average and just four RBI, but wouldn’t it be fitting for him to hammer his first homer of the year to celebrate the end of the contract stand-off?

Yesterday’s loss to the Mets ended with Guerrero snapping his bat across his knee in frustration, but he strung together 18 hits against the Red Sox in 2024 on the way to 12 RBI, and I like his chances of driving in a run tonight.
