My analysis
Scoring for MLB teams comes in waves, and the Milwaukee Brewers have fallen victim to that as of late. After scoring a whopping 42 runs in four games, the Brewers have now just managed to score just six in their last three. The difference has been obvious in the win-loss column, as the Brewers have now lost two straight after putting together a five-game winning streak.
Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Dodgers have managed to score four or more runs in seven of their last nine games, and they have gone 7-2 during that time as result.
Milwaukee is hoping that Colin Rea can help limit the hot bats of Los Angeles on Tuesday night as they try to even up the series at one game apiece and prevent the Dodgers' lead over them in the National League standings from swelling. Rea's statistics look good on paper, but he is incredibly unspectacular when you look a little deeper.
Rea's expected ERA is 19th percentile, and his expected batting average is 16th percentile. His fastball velocity is bad (27th percentile), and he gets hit hard (13th percentile average exit velocity) to boot.
He doesn't get batters to chase (eighth percentile) or whiff (ninth percentile), and the only advanced metrics he is above average in are walk rate (64th percentile) and his extension (the distance between his release point and the plate; 67th percentile).
