MLB Player Props & Best Bets Today for 3-27: Juan For the Money

Juan Soto makes his Mets debut against the Astros and lefty Framber Valdez, and while it may seem like a tricky matchup, the lefty hasn't struggled in same-handed splits.

We’ve got a busy 14-game slate for the start of the baseball season, and we’re cutting right to the players everyone wants to see on Opening Day.

That includes parsing the matchups, finding the best available MLB player props for each contest, and seeking the best value on the board.

Check out these free MLB picks for Thursday, March 27, starting with baseball’s most coveted free agent this winter, now suiting up for the New York Mets.

Best MLB player props today

MLB props for March 27

Juan Soto 2+ total bases (+150 at DraftKings)

It was a monster year for Juan Soto, who finished fourth in the home run chase with 41 big flies and sixth with 109 RBI. He was also sixth in the majors with 76 extra-base hits.

His campaign opens vs. Houston Astros lefty Framber Valdez, but Soto held his own against lefties last season, hitting .278 with a .966 OPS.

In his career against Valdez, he’s 2-for-5 with two walks and a pair of runs driven in.

Coincidentally, he opened his Yankees career with a game against the Astros and went 1-for-3 with an RBI. My MLB picks expect slightly more volume for a nice plus-money payout in his New York Mets debut.

Paul Skenes to record the win (+150 at DraftKings)

I would have loved to jump on the Paul Skenes strikeout prop of 6.5 and bang the Over, but that pays out at -160, and that’s not exactly great value.

Instead, we’ll take the reigning NL Rookie of the Year to open the season by picking up the victory against the Miami Marlins, which offers another plus-money odds payout.

The Pittsburgh Pirates right-hander shredded in his rookie year, going 11-3 with a 1.96 ERA in 133 innings.

Miami got a great look at him toward the end of the season, and I don’t see how it won’t be much of the same in 2025.

In that start, Skenes went six strong innings, scattering six hits, surrendering one earned run, and fanning nine with just one walk in a 3-2 Pirates win.

Shohei Ohtani 2+ total bases (+125 at DraftKings)

It’s rarely a bad idea to put some of your hard-earned money on Shoehei Ohtani.

The Los Angeles Dodgers star has come flying out of the gate, picking up a couple of hits in the opening-game 4-1 win over the Cubs and following it up with his first jack of the year in Game 2.

Ohtani has picked up at least 2+ bases in each of his first two games and will now contend with Detroit Tigers ace Tarik Skubal, coming off a spectacular 2024 campaign where he went 18-4 with a 2.39 ERA.

Ohtani has yet to connect against the lefty, going hitless in six at-bats, but he’s too talented to be held down.

Last year, Ohtani hit a solid .288 against lefties with 12 home runs and 39 RBI, with 26 extra-base hits in 226 at-bats.

Back from Japan and in front of the LA fans for the first time in 2025, we can expect potential fireworks tonight.
