We have a quiet Thursday on the baseball diamond with just five games taking place tonight, but there are still plenty of juicy MLB player props to sink our teeth into.
I'm betting on a big game from Pittsburgh's Oneil Cruz while also backing Fernando Tatis and Reynaldo Lopez with my best free MLB props for September 5.
MLB props for September 5
- Cruz Over 1.5 H+R+RBI (-120 at Sports Interaction)
- Lopez Under 1.5 earned runs allowed (+115 at bet365)
- Tatis Jr. Over 1.5 total bases (-105 at BetMGM)
Today’s best MLB props
Prop bet #1: Oneil Cruz Over 1.5 H+R+RBI
Oneil Cruz is having a breakout season at the plate for the Pittsburgh Pirates and he's been on fire since the start of July, slashing .306/.361/.500. He also crushes the ball at PNC Park, where he slashes .315/.380/.547.
The Washington Nationals are starting right-hander Jake Irvin, who has a 4.08 ERA through 10 starts. Irvin has really struggled over the last couple of months, pitching to a 6.55 ERA with an OBA of .305 over his last 10 starts.
With Cruz boasting the platoon advantage against Irvin, my MLB picks think he'll have a big day. This is a five-star prop play according to THE BAT X which is projecting 2.6 H+R+RBI for Cruz today.
Prop bet #2: Reynaldo Lopez Under 1.5 earned runs allowed
Reynaldo Lopez is putting together the best season of his career, pitching to a 2.00 ERA with an OBA of .226 across 22 starts. He's been even better at home where he has a 1.72 ERA with an OBA of .211. Tonight the Atlanta Braves are hosting the Colorado Rockies, who can't hit on the road.
The Rockies are second-last in the majors in OPS (.638) away from home and they plate just 3.52 runs per game. With Lopez allowing fewer than 1.5 earned runs in six of his last eight starts, bet the Under 1.5 earned runs for him today.
Prop bet #3: Fernando Tatis Jr. Over 1.5 total bases
Fernando Tatis Jr. returned to the San Diego Padres' lineup this week after missing more than two months with a leg injury. He went 2-for-6 with a double last night and he looks to keep rolling as the Padres wrap up a home set against the Detroit Tigers.
Tatis has issues with staying on the field but when he's in the lineup, he's one of the best hitters in the world. He had been on fire prior to hitting the IL, slashing .365/.427/.635 in June. He also hits well at home despite the pitcher-friendly confines of Petco Park and has excellent reverse platoon splits, slugging .524 against right-handers.
Today, he'll face off against righty Casey Mize. Mize has a 4.25 ERA with an OBA of .286 through 17 starts, and he sits in the bottom 20th percentile in hard hit rate and exit velocity. He also struggles against right-handed hitters, allowing them to slug .474.
