Royals vs Yankees Prediction, Picks & Odds for Today’s MLB Game

Paul Goldschmidt still measures up as an above-average fastball and changeup hitter. Those two pitches represent the bulk of Royals SP Michael Wacha's arsenal, so we're taking the Yankees 1B to go Over 1.5 total bases.

The New York Yankees and Kansas City Royals continue their series this evening in the Bronx.

The Yankees handled business yesterday via a strong pitching performance and timely hitting. The win continued New York’s recent dominance of the Royals, giving them a fifth win in the last six head-to-head meetings.

My Royals vs Yankees predictions expect Paul Goldschmidt to do the heavy lifting today as I bring you my MLB picks for Tuesday, April 15.

Royals vs Yankees prediction

My Royals vs Yankees best bet: Paul Goldschmidt Over 1.5 total bases (+140 at bet365)

As is often the case, we’ve seen heavy action on the New York Yankees since the opening number. We're eschewing picking a side or a total to focus primarily on the MLB player props market.

I see a nice edge on Paul Goldschmidt’s Over 1.5 base prop tonight. I priced it around +105, and the market is well above that. With that in mind, I’ll gladly take the current number.

Michael Wacha will take the mound for the Kansas City Royals, and he primarily deploys a two-pitch arsenal, with the fastball and changeup making up 70% of his offerings this season. That number was even higher a year ago.

Goldschmidt ranks second amongst Yankees in hard-hit rate and batting average against the fastball. Against the changeup, he ranks first in batting average and third in hard-hit rate.

As you’ve seen with plenty of pitchers facing the Yankees this season, we expect a substantial reduction of fastballs from Wacha tonight, given just how good this lineup has shown it can be against the heater. Overall, that’s probably the best approach, but it should also play directly into Goldy's hands.

It’s also worth noting that The Bat X sees some value here, projecting Goldschmidt’s base total at 1.7. It will be a fairly windy night in New York, with around 20 mph gusts blowing to left field. Given his spray charts, that lines up favorably with where the veteran typically hits the ball. This is even more of a story, with Wacha having a barrel rate in the Top 15% of baseball, too.

Royals vs Yankees same-game parlay (SGP)

Paul Goldschmidt 2+ total bases

Max Fried Under 5.5 strikeouts

Under 8.5

The Royals have done a great job of making contact this season, with the third-lowest whiff rate in the sport and the second-highest chase contact rate in baseball.

Max Fried is coming off a massive 11-strikeout outing against the Detroit Tigers, but this matchup is much different. I’ll roll the dice against such a heavy-contact team.

We finished with the Under here, which is primarily a projection play with my number right around 8. Max Fried is Max Fried, and while the Yankees have some advantages against Wacha, he shouldn’t be overwhelmed.
