76ers vs Nets Prediction, Picks & Odds for Tonight’s NBA Game

This might not be the most fun game to watch, as both the 76ers and Nets play at a snail's pace and Joel Embiid may or may not play. Still, betting the Under — which has been wildly profitable in Brooklyn games — may be fruitful.

Coming off an ugly loss to the Toronto Raptors, the Philadelphia 76ers hit the road to take on an equally poor Brooklyn Nets team in what’s poised to be a sloppy matchup between two of the worst teams in the Eastern Conference.

With Joel Embiid’s status up in the air and Brooklyn down leading-scorer Cam Thomas, I don't expect either team to put together a consistent night of offense in my 76ers vs. Nets predictions and NBA picks for Wednesday, February 12.

My analysis
Will Joel Embiid suit up for the Philadelphia 76ers tonight? It’s unclear. The seven-time All-Star took the court yesterday — putting up 27 against the Toronto Raptors — but passed on a wide-open game-tying three late in the contest, instead turning the ball over.

Now, with Philly playing the second half of a back-to-back, it seems unlikely that Nick Nurse will have the face of the franchise at his disposal, which is great news for this Under. The Brooklyn Nets have been one of the best Under teams in the NBA this season, and are 11-2 in that direction since January 15 — that includes going 7-0 to the Under when the game total is 213 or lower.

Brooklyn has one of the league’s worst offenses, sitting 29th in points per game (105.1) and 28th in offensive rating (108.8), on top of being without Cam Thomas and his 24.7 PPG. Without the fourth-year guard, head coach Jordi Fernandez Torres has just one player scoring more than 14 PPG (Cameron Johnson).

With such little offensive firepower, it’s no wonder the Nets have been on a cold scoring streak. It also doesn’t hurt our Under that they play an agonizingly slow style of basketball that has them ranked last in pace (96.1).

That slow play translates to giving up fewer points because of opponents’ decrease in possessions. Brooklyn allows the eighth-fewest PPG in the NBA (111.3) and gives up the second-fewest shot attempts per game (83.8).

That should cut into Philly’s ability to score, especially if Embiid doesn’t play. The 76ers are 25th in the league in PPG (109.4), 21st in field-goal percentage (45.6%), and 28th in pace (96.7).

Outside of Tyrese Maxey, Nurse’s lineup has been sporadic at best, and losing rookie Jared McCain for the season last month killed what little momentum the team looked to be building this year.

Luckily, the Nets offense is so bad — 27th in field goal percentage (44%), 21st in 3-point percentage (35%), 24th in assists (24.7) — that the 76ers should be able to contain it with or without Embiid.

Two inefficient offenses playing at the slowest pace this season is a recipe for the Under.

76ers vs Nets same-game parlay

Under 213.5

Tyrese Maxey Over 2.5 turnovers

Nic Claxton Under 19.5 points + rebounds

For as flashy as Maxey has been this season, he’s been struggling with turnovers lately. While he’s averaging 2.5 per game on the season, he’s turned the ball over four times in each of his past three games.

The 24-year-old has at least three turnovers in 23 of 46 games this season, which includes a four-turnover performance the last time he played the Nets. Point guards average the eighth-most turnovers per game (3.82) against Brooklyn this season.

Maxey isn’t the only former SEC star who should struggle in this matchup. Nic Claxton is averaging a combined 17.4 points and rebounds per game this season and has gone Under 19.5 in 25 of 46 games. Philly allows the ninth-fewest points and eighth-fewest rebounds to fives.
