Celtics vs Trail Blazers Prediction, Picks & Odds for Tonight’s NBA Game

No one can deny the scoring ability of Jayson Tatum, but with the Celtics not needing him to win tonight, take the Under on his lofty point total.

Jayson Tatum and the Boston Celtics look to continue their dominance over the Portland Trail Blazers tonight at Moda Center.

Tatum averages 27 points per game over his career against Portland, but my Celtics vs. Trail Blazers predictions expect a low-scoring night from the All-Star.

Celtics vs Trail Blazers prediction

My best bet: Jayson Tatum Under 29.5 points (-110 at bet365)

My analysis
The Boston Celtics have already clinched a playoff berth, and Jayson Tatum is a big reason why. His 27 points per game tops the Celtics, but I’m having a hard time seeing him score 31 points tonight.

If this was a big game I could see a case for Tatum going off, but a matchup against the Portland Trail Blazers does not warrant a "big game" tag.

Boston won’t need Tatum to score big to win, and that’s a high-scoring prop total for a healthy Tatum — let alone one with a sore knee.

Only twice across the last 10 games has Tatum’s scoring prop number closed at 29.5 or higher. He’s cleared 30 points thrice during that span, but most prop projections have the All-Star scoring around 25, and I’m down with that.

The DFS guys know Portland defends the small forward position well, as the Trail Blazers surrender the 17th fewest points to this position (41.7).

Tatum has failed to score 30+ in seven of his previous 10, and I don’t see him reaching that milestone tonight.

Celtics vs Trail Blazers same-game parlay

Jayson Tatum Under 29.5 points

Celtics moneyline

Over 218.5

This game features an injury report that seems longer than my tennis racquet. That said, I like the Celtics to win, and I’ll add an alternate total of 218.5.

The C’s are coming in hot, having won four of five while sitting at 27-7 straight up on the road. The game total typically ends Over the number when these two get together.

The Over/Under record in their past 10 meetings is 8-2-0 to the Over, and injuries or not, tonight’s bout will likely follow that trend.
