Get set for a Sunday night Southwest Division showdown between the Memphis Grizzlies and New Orleans Pelicans at Smoothie King Arena.

Memphis guard Desmond Bane has been hot, but my Grizzlies vs. Pelicans predictions expect the five-year vet to cool off tonight. Read on as I share my NBA picks for Sunday, March 9.

Grizzlies vs Pelicans prediction

My best bet
Desmond Bane Under 24.5 points (-115 at bet365)

My analysis
Tonight’s Memphis Grizzlies vs. New Orleans Pelicans matchup is a battle between the walking wounded.

Several players from both squads have hit the injury report, and that’s probably why Grizzlies guard Desmond Bane has such a high-scoring prop. He's scored 25+ points in three of five, but his 24.5-point scoring prop number is the highest it's ever been, leading me right to the Under.

The Memphis two-guard averages a shade under 20 points on the road. Bane makes the same percentage of shots at home or on the road and probably won’t need to as nearly a 9-point favorite.

The other problem Bane will have is this Pelicans defense. While hardly a defensive juggernaut, two-guards like Bane have struggled against New Orleans. They held Houston guard Jalen Green to a combined 23 points across two games, and no other two-guard has scored more than 25 points against New Orleans in the last five games.

Bane has had some big scoring nights recently, but he's scored 25+ points just once in his last 10 road games. I’m betting that trend continues tonight at Smoothie King Center.

Grizzlies vs Pelicans same-game parlay

Desmond Bane Under 24.5 points

Jalen Wells Over 1.5 threes

Grizzlies moneyline

I'm rounding out my SGP with Grizzlies guard Jalen Wells and the Grizzlies to win outright. Wells should see an uptick in minutes tonight, with Luke Kennard possibly on the shelf. Wells has drilled 2+ triples in four of his last seven, and New Orleans allows 14 made threes per game at Smoothie King.

Memphis has won five of its last six meetings with New Orleans. The Pelicans could be without several guys and haven't even fared well against Memphis with their full team.

The Grizzlies snapped a four-game home losing skid with a Friday night win over Dallas. New Orleans has lost four of five, a trend that will be five of six after tonight's game.
