The Atlanta Hawks will try to find a way to end their seven-game losing streak as they visit the Indiana Pacers on Saturday night.

Indiana has won eight of its last 10 games, and I’m taking it to cover again tonight in my Hawks vs. Pacers predictions.

Read on to see my full analysis of this Eastern Conference matchup in my free NBA picks for Saturday, February 1.

Hawks vs Pacers prediction

My best bet
Pacers -8 (-110 at bet365)

My analysis
The Atlanta Hawks have seemingly been in a freefall over the last two weeks. After beating the Boston Celtics on Jan. 18, Atlanta has gone on to lose its last seven games in a row, dropping it to ninth place in the Eastern Conference.

That fall coincides with the loss of Jalen Johnson, who was averaging 18.9 points and 10.0 rebounds per game before going down with a torn labrum that will keep him out for the season.

That injury has put more pressure on Trae Young (22.5 ppg), who is now even more clearly the focal point of the Atlanta offense.

While Young is still putting up great numbers and averaging 11.4 assists per game, the more one-dimensional Hawks offense isn’t getting the job done in the same way in Johnson’s absence.

During the seven-game losing streak, Atlanta is averaging 104.3 ppg, down significantly from its season-long average of 115.3 ppg.

That’s troublesome for a team that has relied on its offense to carry it to wins.

The Hawks have been average at best on defense, posting a 113.1 defensive rating, while opponents score 118.5 ppg against them.

With opponents still largely getting to those numbers even as Atlanta’s offense sputters, it’s no surprise that this team can’t buy a win right now.

The Indiana Pacers, on the other hand, have been playing excellent basketball over the past month. They went 10-2 in January and went from a bubble team to being tied with the Milwaukee Bucks for the No. 4 seed in the Eastern Conference playoff race.

Unlike the Hawks, Indiana comes into tonight’s game largely healthy. Sure, Bennedict Mathurin (16.4 ppg) is day-to-day with an illness, but Pascal Siakam (20.5 ppg) and Tyrese Haliburton (18.3 ppg) are more than capable of pacing an offense that gets contributions up and down the lineup.

That depth has allowed the Pacers to be a top-10 offense in the NBA – their 114.6 offensive rating ranks ninth in the league, while they are sixth in true shooting (59.3%) – helping them cover for some shaky defensive performances.

With Atlanta lacking enough weapons to get the most out of Young, Indiana shouldn’t be terribly challenged on defense tonight, while the Pacers will have the ability to score consistently at home against an unremarkable Hawks defense.

I’m taking Indiana to win big and cover the spread tonight.

Hawks vs Pacers same-game parlay

Pacers -7.5

Pascal Siakam 20+ points

Under 240.5

Along with taking the Pacers to win tonight, I’m also backing the Under for my same-game parlay.

Both of these teams are capable of playing to higher scores, but the total tonight is just too high to justify an Over bet, especially considering that the Hawks have hit the Under in seven of their last nine games.

In addition, I’ll take Pascal Siakam to score at least 20 points tonight. Siakam has scored at least 20 points in five of his last six games and is averaging 22.4 ppg over the past month.

Even if I don’t think this game will be played above 240 points, that still leaves plenty of room for scoring, and Siakam should get the best of Atlanta tonight.

Successful sports betting is about consistently beating the closing line value, which requires finding spots where one book is offering odds far better than the rest of the market and jumping on those opportunities.
