Latest NBA Picks

Get set for what could be a high-scoring affair tonight when the Atlanta Hawks meet the New Orleans Pelicans at Smoothie King Center.

Hawks All-Star guard Trae Young has struggled from long range, and my Hawks vs. Pelicans predictions expect Young to have a strong, bounce-back shooting night.

Read on as I explain my NBA picks for Sunday, October 27.

Hawks vs Pelicans prediction

My best bet
Trae Young Over 3.5 threes (+110 at bet365)

My analysis
The New Orleans Pelicans don’t defend the triple well at all. They allow a league-average 38 attempts per game, but opponents like the Atlanta Hawks are draining 38% of their long-range attempts.

The injuries to C.J. McCollum and Herbert Jones have worsened matters for the Pelicans. They’ve had to go deeper into their rotation, and their inexperienced defenders are getting cooked.

Hawks All-Star guard Trae Young is riding the struggle bus from long range. This season, the NBA logo threat is shooting just 30% from downtown, far below his career 35% mark, but I expect him to bust loose tonight.

He's splashed 4+ triples in two of his last six. He’s launching 10 three-point attempts per night, but they just aren’t falling. That will likely change tonight against a Pels defense allowing 38% from downtown.

Veteran guards like Young drool over a situation like he’ll find himself in tonight. He’ll play in a fast-tempo game against lesser defenders and will be looking for his shot. The Pelicans are down at least two players, and guard Jordan Hawkins is nursing a sore back.

That should give Young all the room he needs to operate. He’s struggled from downtown but is a 35% career shooter from long-range playing in a pace-up game. The Hawks are looking to end a four-game losing skid, and Young will come out firing.

Hawks vs Pelicans same-game parlay

Trae Young Over 3.5 threes

Jordan Hawkins Under 2.5 threes

Jalen Johnson Under 1.5 threes

This three-legger is all about the long ball. Trae will get his buckets, but teammate Jalen Johnson probably won’t. He’s shooting a miserable 25% from downtown and has gone Over this number just once this season.

Pelicans guard Jordan Hawkins has a sore back. That will make it difficult for him to defend and get his shot off at a faster pace than he’s used to.

He's failed to clear 2.5 threes in three of his last four games and is up against a Hawks defense that surrenders fewer than four made triples per night to shooting guards.
