My best bet
Russell Westbrook Over 17.5 points + assists (-120 at bet365)
My analysis
At the risk of jinxing the Russell Westbrook redemption tour, it’s hard to ignore the role he’s playing for the red-hot Denver Nuggets, who’ve posted a 10-3 mark this month.
Westbrook is averaging 15.6 ppg (52% from the field) and 6.6 apg in January while showing off an ever-growing connection with Nikola Jokic and helping to unlock Jamal Murray.
His points + assists O/U line feels low for this afternoon’s matchup with the Minnesota Timberwolves, and I’m jumping on the Over.
The trends support that pick, with Russ going past this 17.5 number in nine of his last 10 games, including an 18-point, three-assist effort against the Sacramento Kings on Thursday.
He’s doing most of the damage with his scoring, including an admittedly unsustainable stretch from downtown (42% since January 1), but he’s also piled up six or more dimes in seven of his last 10 contests.
We’ve seen this story before with Westbrook when he seemed to have slotted into the ideal role with the Los Angeles Clippers. That didn’t last, but this situation feels more sustainable, particularly given the volume of minutes he’s playing next to Jokic.
Rudy Gobert will need help checking the Joker here, which will open the runway for Russ to descend and attack scrambling defenses.
He’s still a ferocious finisher at the rim, and he’s played consistently enough Michael Malone is giving him almost 30 minutes a night in the starting five — not bad for a cheap off-season pickup.
The Nuggets have poured in 130+ points in three of their last four outings, and I see Westbrook making key contributions again today against a Minnesota team that’s allowed 114 points or more six times already this month.

Nikola Jokic has made monster stat lines feel routine, but his ridiculous 35-17-22 line last time out against the Kings was special even by his high standards.
Joker is averaging 14.9 boards per game in January, and he’s had 13 or more in five of his past six contests. With Gobert and Julius Randle giving the Timberwolves a strong one-two punch on the glass, Jokic will need to bring his A-game here.
Denver is 8-1 ATS in its last nine contests and boasts a +19 point differential across its last three games. I see the visitor continuing its sharpshooting form and covering the small spread here.
