The Minnesota Timberwolves are on a slippery slope in the West's play-in picture.

After losing in LA, they'll play the second half of a back-to-back in Utah against the Jazz but won't be close to full strength (more on that below), which is why they're just 3-point favorites in the NBA odds.

Our Timberwolves vs. Jazz prediction and NBA picks have both teams struggling to find buckets Friday night at the Delta Center.

My analysis

The Minnesota Timberwolves lost for the third time in four games, dropping a 111-102 decision to the Los Angeles Lakers on Thursday.

Sitting in eighth, they're now just a game up on 10th-place Sacramento, and their road trip ends in Phoenix, the 11th place team currently 4.5 games behind them.

The news went from bad to worse, as the T-Wolves had to play most of the second half without Anthony Edwards, who picked up two technical fouls and was ejected.

The worst part is those were techs 15 and 16. Barring the league rescinding that T, Edwards earns an automatic suspension and will be out against the Jazz.

This is a team that already had Rudy Gobert (back) and Julius Randle (groin) out against LA, and even if the two are a go in Salt Lake, they won't be 100%.

If there's one thing that Minnesota showed it can still do with whoever is out on the floor, it is defend.

Despite the loss, they held the Lakers to 41.5% shooting from the field, including a miserable 11-for-41 from 3-point range.

The Utah Jazz is last in the West and, at this point, is only competing for the best draft spot it can get. They were clubbed 118-101 by the Kings last time out, its fourth loss in the last five.

The Jazz have just four wins in their last 20 and are bleeding points, surrendering 122.7 per contest. Opponents are shooting 47.6% from the field and 36.8% from distance.

They're also limping into this one, but they're in no rush to get their guys back on the court. John Collins (back), Collin Sexton (ankle), and Lauri Markkanen (back) are all listed as questionable for this one.

The Timberwolves have owned this head-to-head, winning six in a row.

However, assuming Ant is out, there's not a ton of offense out there, which should enable Utah to hang around.

The Jazz have been held Under the total in two straight, and with Minnesota's strong defense, this one should be a rock fight.

The Under has hit in four of the last five head-to-heads between these teams and should stay on trend Saturday.

Timberwolves vs Jazz same-game parlay

Under 225

Minnesota Timberwolves ML

Minnesota clearly has more to play for Friday, and the Jazz are a nice landing spot for them during an otherwise tough four-game road trip.

They have won eight of the last 10 overall vs Utah and are a crisp 5-0 straight up in their last five visits to the Delta Center.

Utah owns the second-worst record in the league against teams with winning records, going just 6-29, and its 7-22 home record is the second-worst in the NBA.
