Timberwolves vs Nets Prediction, Picks & Odds for Tonight’s NBA Game

Donte DiVincenzo will be highly-motivated in his return to the court tonight, and that should help the Timberwolves sharpshooter clear his 3-pointer prop vs. the feeble Nets, per our NBA betting picks.

No game involving the Brooklyn Nets right now should be taken all that seriously. They are putting together an admirable late-season tank — admirable in its devotion to the cause, that is, and not for the product on the court.

Before the All-Star Break, Brooklyn was only two games out of the Play-In with a 20-35 record. Since then, it has gone 5-16 to plummet nine games outside of any postseason possibility.

The Minnesota Timberwolves should rout the shorthanded home team tonight, but trusting Minnesota to take such an opponent seriously is a mistake. Thus, my Timberwolves vs. Nets predictions and NBA picks will instead rely on an individual Wolf who takes all things seriously, especially in this spot, in Donte DiVincenzo. Tip comes at 7:30 p.m. ET on Thursday, April 3.

Timberwolves vs Nets prediction

My best bet: Donte DiVincenzo Over 2.5 made 3s (-115 at bet365)

My analysis
This line is absurd. If not willing to push Donte DiVincenzo’s made 3-pointers prop up to 3.5 for a night, then the Over should at least be juiced.

DiVincenzo has made 3.3 threes per game on 7.4 attempts since he returned from a turf toe injury in late February. He cleared this prop in 11 of 16 games in that stretch, part of how the Minnesota Timberwolves won 11 of those 16 games.

DiVincenzo has not only shot 44.9% from deep since his return. He was already dialing up before suffering the injury in mid-January. It took him about 25 games to find his role in Minnesota, but since mid-December, DiVincenzo has hit 44.3% of his shots from deep while taking 7.6 of them per game.

That is to say, across 31 games, DiVincenzo has averaged 3.4 made 3-pointers per game.

One might argue tonight’s prop is correctly priced since the Brooklyn Nets give up looks from deep on only 41.8% of opposing field goal attempts, the 12th-lowest rate in the league since the All-Star Break, while conceding those as makes on just 34.3% of attempts, No. 3 in the NBA. And factually, that is valid.

But DiVincenzo does not need much space to chuck. He stations himself five or six feet from the arc, intentionally creating more space for Anthony Edwards to operate. And DiVincenzo is one of the best volume shooters in the NBA, even if not widely recognized as such. So he should expose those rates.

Now the intangible: DiVincenzo is coming off a one-game suspension for defending Naz Reid as three Pistons attacked Reid on the floor. If anyone is going to have a license to shoot tonight, it is DiVincenzo, especially when realizing he was 2-for-3 from long range in less than 10 minutes before Isaiah Stewart started that fight on Sunday.

Timberwolves vs Nets same-game parlay

Donte DiVincenzo Over 2.5 made 3s

Julius Randle Over 4.5 assists

Timberwolves team total Over 114.5

DiVincenzo’s spacing creates room for Edwards to operate. As the postseason nears, Minnesota needs that. It also allows Julius Randle time and space. The former Knicks teammates know where to find each other best, and Randle often kicks out to DiVincenzo.

If the latter is making a few extra 3-pointers tonight, it is logical to expect a couple of them to be set up by Randle.

And if those two are humming, then Minnesota should easily run up the score on a Nets roster that will be devoid of Cam Thomas, Day’Ron Sharpe, Noah Clowney, and Cam Johnson.

Timberwolves vs Nets spread and Over/Under analysis

  • This spread opened with Minnesota as a 12.5-point favorite on Wednesday evening, settling at -13 by Thursday morning.
  • That spread opened after the Nets had already released their initial injury report, but keep an eye on D’Angelo Russell. Officially probable with right ankle soreness, if he were to miss this game, then the spread would likely move another point toward the Timberwolves.
  • This total opened at 216.5 and only moved down to 216.

He covered Notre Dame football for various outlets from 2008 to 2024, most notably spending eight seasons as NBC Sports’ beat writer on the Irish. That was also when his gambling focus took off. Knowing there were veteran beat writers with three decades more experience than he had, Douglas found his niche by best recognizing Notre Dame’s standing in each year’s national landscape, a complex tapestry most easily understood and remembered via betting odds.

In 2021, that interest created a freelance opportunity with Covers, a role that eventually led to Douglas joining the company full-time in 2023. In the fall, Douglas will place five or six dozen bets each week, a disproportionate amount via BetRivers because the operator tends to have lines slightly different than the rest of the market. The same can be said of Circa Sports’ futures markets.

While Douglas is an avid NBA fan and covers the league throughout the year, the vast majority of his bets are on college football, because that is the biggest key to sports betting: Know what you do not know.
