The Golden State Warriors fly into Smoothie King Center as a massive favorite against the New Orleans Pelicans, who could be missing as many as eight players due to injury.
With the Dubs sitting at the top of the Pacific Division and the undermanned Pellies dropping nine of their last 10 games, I’ll explain why the visitors should cover the spread in my Warriors vs Pelicans predictions for Friday, November 22.
Warriors vs Pelicans prediction
My best bet
Warriors -10.5 (-110 at bet365)
My analysis
It’s been a dream start to the season for the Golden State Warriors, who got back into the win column Wednesday to take sole possession of first place in the Western Conference.
Andrew Wiggins had one of his best games of the year with 27 points, while Steph Curry added 23 in the 120-97 victory.
It marked the seventh time in Golden State’s 11 victories they won by at least 11 points, with two of those games coming against tonight’s opponent, the New Orleans Pelicans.
With so many blowout wins it should come as no surprise the Dubs have done a good job of covering the spread, going 10-4 ATS through their first 14 games.
The Pelicans, meanwhile, come into tonight’s game on the heels of a 28-point loss to the Cavaliers and a 41-point defeat to the Mavericks. New Orleans is 4-12 ATS on the season while losing by 11 points in nine of its 12 defeats.
The Pellies could be down as many as eight players tonight, with stars Zion Williamson (out), Dejounte Murray (out), CJ McCollum (doubtful), and Brandon Ingram (questionable) all on the injury list.
That paves the path for what should be another dominant win for the Warriors, who rank third in points per game (119.6) and plus-minus (+10.5).
Warriors vs Pelicans same-game parlay
If the Warriors are going to cover the spread tonight, they’ll need decent performances from both Curry and Wiggins, and that shouldn’t be too much of a problem against the woeful defense of the Pelicans.
The Pellies have allowed 115.4 points per game — eighth-worst in the NBA — with opponents shooting 36.9% from three (28th).
Curry has scored 23+ points in six of his last eight games, while Wiggins has dropped 16+ in two straight and four of his last seven.
