New Hampshire vs UConn Odds, Picks and Predictions: Firing on All Cylinders

UConn has been rolling since the season began, crushing it on offense while putting in strong efforts on defense. New Hampshire has also found success but hasn't faced the strongest opposition. Still, their offense could cause trouble in such a big spread.

The Connecticut Huskies have come storming out of the gates this college basketball season.

After steamrolling the competition for a perfect start through six games, they’re now a massive 30.5-point favorite in the college basketball odds, as they host the New Hampshire Wildcats. After dropping their season opener, the Wildcats have ripped off four wins in their last five.

Can they hang with the current Beasts of the Big East? Read on for my free college basketball picks and best bet for UConn vs. New Hampshire on Monday, November 27.

New Hampshire vs UConn picks and predictions

The UConn Huskies dot a lot of the top statistical spots in college hoops. After finishing with the top ranking on KenPom a season ago, they’re currently sitting third this season.

They rank second in offensive efficiency, piling up 89.5 points per game, which ranks inside the Top 10 in the nation. The Huskies are shooting a blistering 52.5% from the field, which is eighth in the NCAA.

They’re coming off a 90-60 drubbing of Manhattan, powered by a historic night from Tristen Newton, who had 15 points, 10 rebounds, and 13 assists. That’s the third career triple-double for the senior guard — the most ever by a player in the school’s storied history. Big man Donovan Clingan had 17 points and four boards, while Cam Spencer went for 18 points, hitting all four of his 3-point attempts.

UConn is no slouch on defense either, surrendering 60 points a contest, which ranks 14th, and helped place them ninth in KenPom’s defensive efficiency metric. They are also 42nd in field goal defense, and limited Manhattan to 39.7% shooting from the floor.

The New Hampshire Wildcats are coming off a pair of close wins, knocking off Marist 74-71, before topping Fairfield last time out, 83-80. While wins are wins, it’s the level of competition that concerns me. Marist sits 242nd on KenPom, while Fairfield checks in at 298.

The Wildcats are in that range as well, ranking 249th despite putting up an impressive 82.2 points per game, which ranks 58th in the NCAA.

The Wildcats do boast one item the Huskies don’t currently have: a 20-point scorer. That comes in the form of senior forward Clarence Daniels, who leads the team with 20.8 points and nine rebounds per game.

UConn, meanwhile, has four scorers in the 14.5-16.2 range, making them a difficult proposition to guard, considering Newton is the lone player in the group to shoot below 50%.

New Hampshire has shown enough offense to not take a flier on that point spread, but the way these offenses have looked, that’s a reasonable total of 147. Four of UConn’s six games have hit the Over, and the Wildcats have topped their total in four of five games.

My best bet: Over 147 (-110 at DraftKings)

New Hampshire vs UConn same-game parlay

Over 147

New Hampshire team total Over 57.5

UConn has looked dominant, but it hasn’t been the toughest schedule. According to KenPom, the combined offensive efficiency of its six opponents ranks a whopping 353rd of 362 teams in college basketball.

Its win over 15th-ranked Texas represented the top opponent in terms of offensive efficiency. Not coincidentally, the Huskies allowed a season-high 71 points. Only one other school, Indiana, was in the Top 80, with the rest of the UConn opposition sitting in the deep 300s of offensive efficiency.

New Hampshire’s season low for points in a game this season is 67, in a loss to George Washington. The Wildcats scored 72 in a season-opening loss to the Syracuse Orange and this is a reachable number, as three of the Huskies’ six opponents have scored 58 or better, including in each of the last two games.

New Hampshire vs UConn spread and Over/Under analysis

This line was built at 30 points, and has never fallen below that threshold. The highest spread has been 31.5, with most books keeping it at Huskies -30.5.

UConn has had that large a line three times this season and is just 1-2 against the spread in those games. New Hampshire is 3-2-0 ATS this season.

This is just the third game this year the Wildcats have been an underdog and this is easily the biggest line they've faced as a dog — they were +18 vs. Syracuse, which they covered.

The total stayed pretty consistent, with a low of 146.5 points, to a high of 148 at Caesars Sportsbook.
