This Saturday we have the Bears vs Bills. The Bears beat the Texans in the Hall of Fame game and come into this preseason game on the back of that win, however, this will be the first time we see the Bills.

My analysis
As always with preseason things are complicated and we need to see through coach speak and depth charts, in order to find out how things will shake out in each game. Ahead of this game, we know more about where the Bears are, than the Bills, having seen them beat the Texans 21-17 in the Hall of Fame game.
The most important thing in any preseason game is how many starters we’ll see and in particular the quarterbacks. Well, it’s good news for neutrals with both teams set to play starters. This week we’ve heard Sean McDermott say that his starters would play “a quarter, give or take”, meaning that we’re going to get a chance to see Josh Allen with his new-look WR corps including rookie Keon Coleman and new wideouts Curtis Samuel and Marquez Valdes-Scantling. The big question is how the Bills will perform once Allen is taken out of the game.
That’s when we’ll see Mitchell Trubisky come into the game, as well as possibly Shane Buechele. We know all about Trubisky now, he’s a reasonable but not exceptional backup. Last season he got one TD during three preseason games for the Steelers and was picked off once too. He’s not a game-changer and might struggle against what is a reasonable Bears defense.
The Bears are going to give us the first glimpse of Caleb Williams on Saturday. The number one overall pick was held out of the Hall of Fame game but now he’ll join the other available starters. From what Eberflus has said this week it’s very much a case of seeing how Williams deals with the offense, the huddle, and avoiding penalties, but either way, it’s a chance to see him in action.
When he does lead the game he’ll be replaced by Tyson Bagent and Brett Rypien. It was Rypien who got the bulk of snaps in the HoF game and he put on a clinic, throwing for three passing touchdowns and 166 yards against the Texans. If he plays anywhere near that level then it’s going to put the Bears in with a great chance of winning this game.
