He may not have won any Grammy Awards in 2025, but Jon Batiste remains one of the most talented musicians in the world.

While Kendrick Lamar’s halftime show will garner most of the headlines around Super Bowl 59’s music, all eyes — and ears — will fixate on Batiste’s National Anthem length before the opening kick-off.

Join me as I break down my best National Anthem length prediction for Super Bowl 59 on Sunday, February 3.

My analysis
First of all, do not dawdle if you are considering betting on the National Anthem. At some point late in the week, someone will hear Jon Batiste rehearse his performance, and their secondhand report will lead this number to steam the appropriate direction. The market may come off the board entirely. That may not come until Friday or Saturday, but it will happen at some point. A prudent Super Bowl props bettor has this play submitted long before Sunday evening.

Second of all, recognize sportsbooks will limit your bet on this for those same reasons. They do not want someone with inside information able to get down significant money. The possibility of inside information is also why the United States does not allow regulated betting on a national anthem prop.

All that said, look to the Under from Batiste.

Do not fret too much when he takes a long time to commence singing. The betting industry standard is to time only from the first touch of “O say can you see” to the final note of “Brave.” A Juilliard-trained pianist and New Orleans native, Batiste may dazzle before a word is sung, but once that begins, he has a track record of being relatively quick.

Batiste finished the National Anthem in 1 minute and 46 seconds at the 2017 U.S. Open. At that same year’s NBA All-Star Game, Batiste needed just 1 minute and 29 seconds to finish the anthem.

The greatest risk to this Under will be Batiste adding a musical interlude to the anthem, but logic expects that to come before he even begins singing. A dramatic introduction will be fitting for a performance on the biggest stage in Batiste’s hometown just more than a month after a terrorist attack there.

Warning

Sports bettors should be aware that because there is no official timer, some sportsbooks will grade this prop on slightly different times. In the past, this resulted in the same bet being graded as Over at some betting sites and Under at others. Be sure you understand the terms and conditions of this prop at your betting site before placing a bet.

Douglas Farmer spends his days thinking about college football and his nights thinking about the NBA. His betting habits and coverage follow that same pattern. He covered Notre Dame football for various outlets from 2008 to 2024, most notably spending eight seasons as NBC Sports’ beat writer on the Irish. That was also when his gambling focus took off. Knowing there were veteran beat writers with three decades more experience than he had, Douglas found his niche by best recognizing Notre Dame’s standing in each year’s national landscape, a complex tapestry most easily understood and remembered via betting odds.

In 2021, that interest created a freelance opportunity with Covers, a role that eventually led to Douglas joining the company full-time in 2023. In the fall, Douglas will place five or six dozen bets each week, a disproportionate amount via BetRivers because the operator tends to have lines slightly different than the rest of the market. The same can be said of Circa Sports’ futures markets.

While Douglas is an avid NBA fan and covers the league throughout the year, the vast majority of his bets are on college football, because that is the biggest key to sports betting: Know what you do not know.
