It's been five days since the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles punched their tickets to Super Bowl 59 in New Orleans.

Despite plenty of betting money pouring into The Big Game, we haven't seen much movement in the Super Bowl odds. I break down the line movement with some early insights on the spread, moneyline, and total for Super Bowl LIX on Sunday, February, 9.

Opening odds and Early Movement

As soon as the Kansas City Chiefs eliminated the Bills on Sunday night, we saw Super Bowl odds hit the board at Caesars with the Chiefs installed as 1-point favorites with the O/U at 48. The moneyline opened with the Chiefs at -120 and the Philadelphia Eagles short underdogs at +100. Early money immediately came in on the two-time defending Super Bowl champion Chiefs and the Over, shifting the spread to K.C. -2 and moving the total to 49.5. Likewise, the moneyline price for the Chiefs had ticked up slightly to -130.

Those early moves made sense since the Chiefs have been an ATS machine in the playoffs under Patrick Mahomes, while both Conference Championship games had soared Over the total.

However, those line moves saw resistance and we've since seen buyback on the Eagles and the Under. As of Friday, the spread is now -1.5 with the Chiefs moneyline priced at -125 and the O/U at 49.

Public and Sharps backing the Chiefs on the Spread

It's a bit surprising that the spread is sitting at -1.5 despite the majority of tickets and handle coming in on the Chiefs who have won three of the last five titles. However, that is a bit of a dead number and a move past -2 seems extremely unlikely with sharps waiting to pounce on the Eagles at a higher number. It will be interesting to see if bettors will tease Philly up past the key number of 7.

Moneyline bets seeing an even split

While the lack of movement on the spread might be a bit surprising given the handle on the Chiefs, the small 5-cent shift on the moneyline is understandable. There's been a fairly even split when it comes to moneyline bets on both sides with plenty of bettors intrigued by the Eagles at plus money. That's music to the ears of books that have a ton of liability on a K.C. victory due to the Chiefs taking a high percentage of Super Bowl futures tickets.

Pump the brakes on the Over

As usual, bettors tend to hammer the Over in the Super Bowl but despite approximately 80% of the bets and handle coming in on the Over, we've seen the total peak at 49.5 and actually come down a little. Oddsmakers are clearly a bit reluctant to approach the key O/U of 51 with both teams boasting stingy defenses and methodical attacks.

There might also be hesitation about this banged-up Eagles offense with injury reports indicating that Pro Bowl interior linemen Cam Jurgens and Landon Dickerson, and wideout DeVonta Smith have been unable to practice this week.
