The Montreal Canadiens host the Calgary Flames at the Bell Centre on Tuesday, November 5, and the pair of Canadian clubs are both looking to snap losing streaks.

Montreal head coach Martin St. Louis has moved forward Kirby Dach back to the top line, and our Flames vs. Canadiens predictions and NHL picks are anticipating Dach to continue clicking alongside linemates Nick Suzuki and Cole Caufield.

Canadiens vs Flames prediction

My Canadiens pick
Kirby Dach Over 1.5 shots (-135 at BET99)

My Canadiens analysis
Montreal Canadiens winger Kirby Dach returned to the No. 1 line with Nick Suzuki and Cole Caufield during Saturday’s game against the Penguins, and the trio remained intact during Monday’s practice. It’s a clicking line for the Habs.

Suzuki, Caufield, and Dach have posted an impressive 53.8 Corsi For percentage and 59.0% shot share at 5-on-5 this season, while Suzuki and Caufield have been on the ice for respective 37.4% and 41.5% marks without Dach.

Similarly, Dach has a 35.3 CF% and 38.1 SF% at 5-on-5 when jumping the boards without Suzuki and Caufield.

The trio also has been dangerous with a 55.24 expected goals percentage at 5-on-5, and all three jump the boards with the No. 1 power-play unit. The Calgary Flames have also taken the ninth-most minor penalties at 5-on-5 this season, so the Habs should have some power-play looks tonight.

Additionally, Dach has recorded 2+ shots in three of four games when playing the bulk of his even-strength minutes with Suzuki and Caufield.

The Flames have also been loose defensively and allowed the seventh-most shots per game (37.1) while posting a 21st-ranked 48.3 CF% at 5-on-5, so Dach and his linemates are set up to tilt the ice in their favor. Calgary has allowed the eighth-most shots per game (11.67) to opposing wingers, too.

Canadiens vs Flames same-game parlay (SGP)

Under 6.5

Kirby Dach Over 1.5 shots

Rasmus Andersson Over 2.5 shots

The Flames have played to the Under in four straight and eight of their past 10, while the Habs snapped a lengthy Over run during their 3-1 loss to the Penguins on Saturday. Calgary has been excellent defensively, while Montreal has been plagued by a 30th-ranked .878 team save percentage at 5-on-5.

I’m anticipating better goaltending from the Habs. The Flames also have generated the eighth-fewest expected goals per 60 minutes (2.46) at 5-on-5 while posting a 22nd-ranked 16.2 PP%.

Calgary defenseman Rasmus Andersson has paced the club in ice time per game (24:14) and quarterbacks the No. 1 power-play unit. He’s recorded seven shots on 13 attempts across the past two games, and Montreal is a favorable matchup for opposing shooters.

The Canadiens have surrendered the fifth-most shots per game (31.9), including the sixth-most to defensemen. Montreal also ranks 31st with a 42.7 CF% at 5-on-5.
