Islanders vs Hurricanes Predictions, Picks, and Odds for Tonight’s NHL Playoff Game

The Hurricanes' offense goes well beyond the top lines, making them a formidable team to handle. Our NHL picks have picked up on that, and we expect Brady Skjei to continue to put his minutes to good use.

The Carolina Hurricanes are looking to take a 2-0 series lead as they host the New York Islanders at PNC Arena on April 22.

The Isles may have some confidence heading into this game, however, due to their 34-26 shot advantage in Game 1. It was a close game throughout until the Canes pulled away with an empty-net goal in the final minutes.

Islanders vs Hurricanes prediction

My best bet
Brady Skjei Over 0.5 assists (+144 at Pinnacle)

My analysis

The Carolina Hurricanes entered the playoffs as one of the teams to beat and showed why with a 3-1 win over the New York Islanders to open the postseason. They got out to an early 1-0 lead thanks to a power-play goal and never looked back.

The Hurricanes are a team that gets offense from throughout the lineup, and that was apparent on Saturday. Fourth-line winger Stefan Noesen scored the eventual game-winning goal early in the third period, with Evgeny Kuznetsov and Brady Skjei picking up their second points of the game.

Skjei had a five-game assist streak to end the regular season — 11 points in his final 13 games — and stayed hot on Saturday evening.

The defenseman averaged over 21 minutes a game in the regular season and gets a look on the second power-play unit as well. That may not mean too much on some teams, but Carolina has a balanced attack on the man advantage with the likes of Andrei Svechnikov, Martin Necas, and Kuznetsov joining him on the second pair.

Skjei has been making things happen and the odds haven’t caught up just yet.

Islanders vs Hurricanes same-game parlay (SGP)

Brady Skjei Over 0.5 assists

Hurricanes moneyline

Under 5.5

Game 2 may not be all that different from Game 1. The Hurricanes and Islanders are both defensive teams with great goaltending between the pipes.

The Isles had trouble solving Frederik Andersen, who finished the season on a 9-0-1 stretch with just 12 goals allowed since returning from injury.
