Jets vs Blues Prediction, Picks & Odds for Tonight’s NHL Game

The Jets have been heading in the wrong direction, but the Blues are in bad form as well. The numbers suggest Winnipeg will rebound on Tuesday night in a big way.

The Winnipeg Jets host the St. Louis Blues in a Central Division clash on Tuesday evening at the Canada Life Centre, and the NHL odds have Winnipeg as a -199 favorite.

Winnipeg looks to end its three-game losing streak, and my Jets vs. Blues predictions believe that it will do just that.

Read on for my NHL picks for Tuesday, December 3.

My Jets analysis

For the first time all season, the Winnipeg Jets have lost control of first place in the Central Division after their recent 3-1 loss to the Dallas Stars. With that said, Tuesday’s game against the St. Louis Blues presents a tremendous bounce back opportunity for the Jets, who are the superior team across the board.

Let’s start with the goaltending matchup, which is projected to be Jordan Binnington versus Winnipeg’s Connor Hellebuyck. The latter outranks Binnington in wins, GAA, SV%, and goals saved above expected per 60 minutes.

To be fair to Binnington, Hellebuyck’s job is easier playing behind the Jets’ blueline. At 5-on-5, Winnipeg surrenders fewer high-danger scoring chances than St. Louis.

The same trend also reigns true for the offense, given that the Jets rank in the top half of the league in xGF/60 at even-strength. The Blues rank 26th in the same category.

That just leaves special teams, which is yet another advantage for Winnipeg. The Jets boast the second-best power play unit in the league, while the Blues are scoring at a sub-16% clip on the man-advantage.

Winnipeg’s penalty kill also ranks higher than St. Louis’.

Finally, the Jets are 12-1-1 in their last 14 games against the Blues, with 10 of those 12 wins coming by at least a two-goal margin.

Jets vs Blues Odds analysis

Winnipeg opened as a -199 favorite and remains at that price. I believe the market will inflate this line further, due to all the aforementioned variables.

The total opened at 5.5 with the juice toward the Over, and the only direction it can really go is up in today's NHL.
