The Winnipeg Jets will look to snap their three-game losing skid when they host the Nashville Predators tonight at the Canada Life Centre at 8 p.m. on TSN3.
My Predators vs. Jets predictions see one of their team leaders, Josh Morrissey, stepping up offensively to help them do just that.
Let’s take a closer look with my January 7 NHL picks.
Jets vs Predators prediction
My Jets pick
Josh Morrissey Over 0.5 assists (-111 at Pinnacle)
My Jets analysis
Josh Morrissey is having another monster season for the Winnipeg Jets. He recorded at least 59 assists in back-to-back seasons and is on track to set a new career high this year, pacing for 66 assists through exactly half of Winnipeg’s games.
His outputs are much stronger when playing at home. Morrissey has recorded an assist in 70% of his games in Winnipeg compared to just 38% of the time when playing on the road.
That checks out as the Jets have stomped opponents in their barn. They own a remarkable 14-4-2 record and have scored an average of 3.77 goals per game, the fourth-highest rate in the NHL.
Morrissey and the Jets are in a good spot to continue their home success against the Nashville Predators.
They have struggled mightily away from Nashville, winning just five times through 22 games. Their goal share on the road (39.13%) is the lowest in the NHL and they’ve been outscored by an average of 1.13 goals per game. Horrific numbers.
They’re going to have a tough time improving upon those numbers vs. the Jets, who rank fourth in expected goals and third in expected goals against at 5-on-5 over the last 10 games.
This is a matchup where the Jets should spend a lot of time in control and on the front foot. Even Juuse Saros hasn’t been able to keep the puck out, allowing at least three goals in 11 of his past 14 starts.
Winnipeg enters this game as a sizeable favorite. That’s certainly notable as Morrissey has an assist in 16 of the last 20 home wins.
Jets vs Predators odds analysis
The Jets opened as -139 moneyline favorites at Pinnacle. The market has further moved in their direction, with Winnipeg now trading at a -143 price point. I expect we’ll see even more movement toward the Jets ahead of the puck drop.
Nashville sits tied for last in the NHL in wins and has scored fewer goals than anybody. It’s going to be tough to crack Connor Hellebuyck and beat an excellent Winnipeg team in its own building.
The scheduling sets up favorably for the Jets, as well. The Predators are playing the last leg of a six-game road trip while the Jets have yet to travel in 2025.
There’s been no appetite in the market for the Over. That’s understandable given the projected goalie matchup (Saros vs. Hellebuyck), Nashville’s offensive woes, and the fact seven of the last 10 head-to-head meetings have featured five goals or fewer.
