The Edmonton Oilers will take on the Carolina Hurricanes tonight, looking to snap out of their season-long five-game losing skid.
My Oilers vs. Hurricanes predictions see the road team doing just that, with Connor McDavid breaking out and leading the charge offensively.
Let’s dive deeper with my NHL picks for Saturday, March 1.

My Oilers analysis
The Edmonton Oilers are mired in their worst slump of the season, having dropped five consecutive games. Connor McDavid has been abnormally quiet during this spell of play, recording three points (all assists) while being held to two shots or less in four of five games.
While some may be concerned the league’s best player has gone so quiet, I’m looking through a glass-half-full approach. McDavid is consistently the most dynamic and productive player in the NHL, and he’s in the prime of his career.
There is no reason to expect his struggles to continue for a moment longer than they already have. We have years and years of data indicating he’s the most dominant player in the league and is almost impossible to slow down for any meaningful chunk of time.
He is long overdue for a dominant, game-breaking performance, and I think it could come tonight against the Carolina Hurricanes. While the Canes are a great team, they haven’t lived up to their usual standards of late, dropping six of their past 10 games.
Their goaltending has not fared overly well, with Pyotr Kochetkov and Frederik Andersen combining for a .881 SV% during that span. That is not an aspect of the game you want to be unsettled heading into a game against McDavid, Leon Draisaitl, and an Oilers team loaded with offensive firepower.
It’s easy to forget amid their recent struggles, but before this five-game skid, these same Oilers ranked third in points percentage and fourth in goals per 60 minutes.
They are a nightmare to contend with when they’re right, and it’s only a matter of time before McDavid & Co. heat up.
Oilers vs Hurricanes same-game parlay (SGP)
Connor McDavid has an unmatched offensive ceiling. No. 97 has picked up multiple points in 40% of his games this season and 53% of Edmonton’s victories, which we’re backing here.
McDavid has failed to register multiple points in six consecutive games. Before this streak, his longest drought was four games – and that’s a mark he reached once.
Not to mention, McDavid has a strong track record against the Hurricanes. He’s produced 2+ points in four of his last five against Carolina.
Ryan Nugent-Hopkins is skating with McDavid on the top line at even strength, as well as on the No. 1 power play unit. If McDavid is to hit the scoresheet multiple times, there’s a good chance RNH comes along for the ride.
