Senators vs Canadiens Prediction, Picks & Odds for Tonight’s NHL Game

The Canadiens defense may as well not exist. They've struggled to prevent shots through two games, and while it worked out fine vs. the Leafs, it did not in Boston. Cue Brady Tkachuk. The Senators captain will shoot early and often tonight.

Latest NHL Picks

The Ottawa Senators earned a statement win over the reigning Stanley Cup champion Panthers in their season opener and I’ll look for them to continue their winning ways against the Montreal Canadiens tonight.

My Senators vs. Canadiens predictions also expect big things from Brady Tkachuk, who was all over the puck in Ottawa’s opening win with five shots on net.

I explain why he will cash the Over on 4.5 shots again in my NHL picks for Saturday, October 12.

Senators vs Canadiens prediction

My best bet
Brady Tkachuk Over 4.5 shots (+110 at BET99)

My analysis
The Ottawa Senators started their 2024-25 season on a high note on Thursday night thanks to two goals from Tim Stutzle and 30 saves from Linus Ullmark in his first start with the club.

Brady Tkachuk got in on the act, too, with an assist and a game-high five shots on net, and I’ll look for him to keep up his high-volume shooting in tonight’s contest vs the Montreal Canadiens.

The Senators captain has always been a shoot-first player, ranking fourth in the NHL with 357 shots last season — just under 4.5 per game.

It’ll help Tkachuk’s case that Montreal’s defense has looked pretty porous to start the campaign. The Habs allowed 48 shots on net in their season-opening win against the Maple Leafs and then 29 more shots (and six goals) to the Bruins on Thursday.

Montreal ranked 30th in shots against per game last season (33.4) so Tkachuk should have plenty of looks around the Habs net.

Senators vs Canadiens same-game parlay (SGP)

Brady Tkachuk Over 4.5 shots

Brady Tkachuk Over 0.5 points

Cole Caufield anytime goal

Along with being a shot-generating machine, Tkachuk has also been highly productive against the Canadiens throughout his career, notching 26 points in 28 meetings — the most among all Senators players vs. Montreal since he entered the league in 2018-19. Tkachuk has collected at least one point in seven of his last nine games vs. the Canadiens.

I’ll round out my same-game parlay by taking Cole Caufield to continue his goal streak. The Habs sniper has scored in each of the first two games while logging at least three shots on net in both contests.
