The Ottawa Senators are back on the road to face off against the Pittsburgh Penguins on Saturday afternoon. The Sens are coming off a disappointing 4-0 loss to the Sabres in their return home after a long road trip.

Ottawa has struggled as of late with four straight losses and a 1-5-1 record in its last seven games. However, the Sens may be able to get things going against a Penguins team that has been equally disappointing this season.

My top Senators vs. Penguins predictions and NHL picks are expecting a high-scoring game on January 11.

My Senators analysis

The Ottawa Senators haven’t been scoring too much recently, but that should change on Saturday afternoon vs. the Pittsburgh Penguins

The Pens are one of the worst defensive teams in the league with an Expected Goals Against at 5-on-5 of 2.73 per 60, which is the fifth-worst in the league. Pittsburgh also generates plenty of Expected Goals with the sixth-best xGF/60 at 2.73.

Both squads are on the first half of a weekend back-to-back on Saturday afternoon. The starting goalies have yet to be confirmed as of this morning, but neither side has a netminder with great numbers.

Anton Forsberg (4-8-1, .883 SV%, 3.10 GAA) and Leevi Merilainen (2-2-0, .884 SV%, 3.10 GAA) have nearly identical numbers in net for Ottawa. The Senators are still without Linus Ullmark, who was holding it down in the crease earlier in the year.

The Penguins’ tandem of Tristan Jarry and Alex Nedeljkovic has been slightly better but still underwhelming. Jarry is 8-6-4 with an .887 SV% and 3.43 GAA, while Nedeljkovic is 7-6-4 with an .891 SV% and 3.21 GAA.

Pittsburgh has been playing a lot of high-scoring games recently with three straight Overs and at least six goals in four of its last five contests. In fact, there have been 6+ goals in six of the Penguins’ last eight games.

Senators vs Penguins odds analysis

The Senators opened as slight road favorites against the Penguins at -120 but have been bet down to -113 at Pinnacle as of late Saturday morning. This will be the third straight game in which the Senators have been favored, losing 3-2 in overtime in Detroit before the shutout loss against the Sabres.

The total hasn’t moved too much, with the Over 6 at -104 and Under 6 at -108. The Senators have been an Under team this season while the Penguins have trended to the Over.
