Edmonton's top-heavy offense may be only able to get it so far, and our NHL picks are taking the Stars on the puck line as we think tonight's game will stay close.

The Edmonton Oilers will try to avoid a 3-1 hole when they host the Dallas Stars in Game 4 of the Western Conference Final on May 29.

My Stars vs. Oilers prediction is siding with Dallas to cover the +1.5 puck line tonight, so even if the hosts can pull out another OT win, I'll cash in on tonight's NHL picks.

Stars vs Oilers prediction

My best bet
Stars +1.5 (-223 at Sports Interaction)

My analysis
These are two of the top four scoring teams in the regular season, and they’ve gotten to that point in very different and compelling styles.

The Edmonton Oilers are top heavy, with Connor McDavid, Leon Draisaitl, and Zach Hyman accounting for five of their seven goals this series. Secondary scoring continues to be a struggle, with Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Evander Kane sitting with a single point combined.

Contrast that with the Dallas Stars, by far the deepest scoring team in the league. Eleven players on the roster have at least two goals in the playoffs, and five players have scored at least 12 points.

That depth has Dallas two wins away from advancing to the Stanley Cup Finals, and the Stars have shown they can get it done on the road — going 6-1 on the highway in these playoffs. They were also the best road team in the regular season with a 26-10-5 record.

The battle in net isn't even close, with Jake Oettinger posting a .923 SV% in the postseason compared to Stuart Skinner's .885 SV%.

Combine Dallas’ depth with the elite goaltending mismatch, even if Edmonton does win, it will have had to earn it in a tightly-contested affair.

Stars vs Oilers same-game parlay (SGP)

Stars +1.5

Connor McDavid anytime goal

Jamie Benn anytime goal

With Draisaitl held in check through the first three games in this series, McDavid already has more goals in this series than he did against the Canucks in seven games.

He has a pair of one-goal, one-assist games against Dallas, and with Wednesday a virtual must-win for Edmonton, look for McDavid to clutch up when his team needs him most.

It’s been a nice playoff run for veteran Jamie Benn. The 34-year-old is fourth in team scoring these playoffs with four goals and 13 points, and he's found the scoresheet in all three games against Edmonton — including one goal.
