Hey Box, SO NICE that you were able to keep your dad's MC ring!!! How cool was that Bishop Perricone's family during the War, and wow...he blessed your family home. Like you said, the whole neighborhood must have been awe struck! PS - Bishop Perricone confirmed me, Box...not baptism lol. And your dad's NYY baseball cap, too...very cool. Yankee fan all my life (as you can imagine). Cheers buddy...all the best!!! MEAN GREEN ...LET'S GO!!! |

Hey Box, I remember you retelling those stories about your dad and his life and times...just amazing stuff, including the whole Manhattan/Fordham craziness. I can imagine back in the day with the Church and the whole cultural rivalry. Screw Fordham, I always say lol. My twins went to Villanova and Loyola (Md), and my son at Loyola one day says, "Dad...why didn't you tell me this is a Jesuit school"...he was a B student lol. His brother wanted Penn/Wharton but just missed being accepted so he went to Nova...worked out fine for both. My youngest was in the Navy (tin can sailor) for 4 years out in the Pacific all over and stationed at Pearl after basic at Great Lakes. He's home now and doing fine. I might have mentioned in the past that Bishop Perricone actually confirmed me at St. Benedict's Parish lol. I can still remember to this day the love tap on my cheek with HIS ring. Your family and grandchildren have some amazing stories to hear and remember all throughout their lives! I lost my Manhattan College ring (silver w/the emerald...never liked the gold ring) three times. First two times lucky i got it back...last time...unfortunately not and so I never replaced it. I had a bad habit of taking my ring off whenever I washed my hands at work, and someone found it in the men's room at my first employer (CPA firm on Lexington Av) and next day I got it back. Second time I was doing an audit at Victory Memorial Hospital on Staten Island in the winter, and one day got home and "damn...what the heck...where'd it go?!! Two/three months later...March...I get a call from a person at Victory...am I so and so? Yes. We found your ring outside near the walkway, must have been in the snow all winter and when the snow melted someone saw the green stone in the sunlight. Amazing...so happy!!! Third time I still don't recall how or where. Cheers buddy...take care, and BOL this Fall with wagering...and with Mean Green athletics!!! |

Hey Box...lol...great stuff...you're the best (and your dad was a heckuva guy to have as a role model - no disrespect to your mom)!!! I'm a Bronx Boy as well, and I stayed home and became a proud Jasper! My brother was in Nam and my parents never drove so I guess I got the guilt thing and figured I needed to be closer to home to help them when they needed it. No regrets!!! You too, box...be safe! Cheers bud |

Hey Mizard, Opening lines came out yesterday afternoon before the games were over, so figures they'd be OL dogs just looking at who they're playing. Just recent history...but SF looks like they're regressing after coming outta the ASG break going 5-0 (PIT and CIN). Lost the last 2 in Cincy and got swept by the Nats, so 5-5 now L10. Only put 8 runs on the board in those 5 losses. Detroit took 2/3 in SEA and 3/4 in KC outta the ASB and came home vs Padres and lost first 2 before winning yesterday. All just recent history, but the Giants are basically doing a Detroit drive-by on their way back home (OAK tomorrow), so where will their heads be? Skubal's only getting back into the rotation (took the L in KC giving up 7 ERs), but he was pretty solid last season, so more like a slight lean to the home team. Stripling hasn't impressed this year and L3 he's given up 7 runs in 14 innings. Don't ya love it when the books hold all the cards lol? Thinking if the "smart" money was on SF early, the line wouldn't be dropping to where it is now (my offshore has DET/SF ML -112/-108). Don't see the books gifting SF smart money bettors by continually dropping the ML for them to load up. And then again...lol...that could be the trap, to make us average schmucks think they're using reverse psych. Like Detroit for what it's worth. Cheers bud and BOL |

Hey Box...great story, as with all your reminisinces! Yep, always called it "Rye Beach" for me and my friends lol. Can still remember 7th and 8th grade our parochial school had a bus ride for us to Playland at the end of the school year. Great memories, too, when I was older and driving...especially the dragon coaster and the bumper cars. Thanks, buddy...and BOL for Fall sports betting! You, too, Stump...BOL this Fall with sports betting! Cheers

Hey DY... First things first...BOL buddy the rest of the way Got a feeling FLA talked it out and said they're not thugs and playing the thug game - including Tkachuk especially - ain't the way to go. Thinking his dad told him that, too. Think they play like BOS and TOR series and use their talent to get it done. (Doing a lot of thinking here lol ) Anywho...liking the Sunrise Boys tonight ML +120 Cheers buddy |

Hey Doc, Looking like the Panthers have (so far) shown the League that making changes from a President's Cup-winning team can yield big results. Tkachuk brought some natural gas with him to South Florida and Coach Maurice seems to be showing how not to screw up a very good team. Looking (not so much rooting) for Panthers to get it done, but Carolina's pride will find a way to lead them to a win tonight (imho). Must have been the 2nd intermission on Saturday night where Jon Cooper seemed to be defending Coach Brind'Amour playing Anti Raanta. The game was going well, and Coop pointed out that Raanta had a very good year between the pipes and pretty much matched Freddie Andersen's production. But Freddie had a great series against New Jersey, and the 4OT result in Game 1 wasn't because of his work on the ice. Regular season...sure, you're gonna switch up if you have two very solid net minders, but just my feeling that Coach B kinda overthunk what needed to be done before Game 2. And I've been on the Panthers, so not like I'm grousing. But what if Carolina got the OT game winner...do you stay with Raanta or switch back to Steady Freddie, and then the media has a story to chew on. Conference finals time (not regular season lunch pail grind) and Freddie has more than lived up to his nickname. Coop's stats and metrics comments were spot on if you want to compare notes, but that's box score stuff. Stuff you don't need to be rattling around in players' heads...just my opinion. And Raanta was better than good; just some players puck watching and forgetting where they needed to be and - wham/bam, Tkachuk's skating off the ice before everybody knew what happened. (Smart move by Matthew to just head for the exit and celebrate in the hallway.) To quote the immortal Mr. Buddy Holly (hey, Rustie...buddy...check out this segue apropos of yours and Doc's in-season "Come Monday" quips)...thinking "not fade away" will be the headline in the morning for Doc and the Canes ! Cheers and BOL |

Hey Guys, Jake's basically alternated wins and losses in the 2023 Playoffs...always starting with an L (MIN, SEA, and now VGK). 'Cept for closing out the Wild with Ws in games 5 and 6, he's grinding like most, and his Ws have mostly been followed by another L, as Mud Man says. He's in the WC Finals so we have to give the guy his due, but your point is valid, Mud, and no whistle for goalie interference so there ya go! Cheers to you guys, and to everybody |

I counted road teams being 31-30 SU (not including 2020 covid playoffs...which had only 3 game 7s). A bunch of road teams that won SU were also the faves...not all dogs. LA Kings won 3 road games in 2014 (Cup winner) @Sharks, @Ducks, and @Blackhawks (don't know who was fave) and are we saying you would try to bet the Kings +1.5 goals in those games? Could you get a line for that bet? Bruins in 2011 (Cup winner) road win @Canucks (finals), Blackhawks (2015 Cup winner) road win @Ducks. Other SC champs like Penguins, Capitals, Blues, and Lightning won road game 7s in their SC year(s). I used that link, Smelly, and not including the 2020 covid mess (only 3 game 7s), I came up with road teams being 31-30 SU. I counted 37 1-goal games and 24 games greater than 1 goal final scores. 17 games went to OT or 2OTs...not including a 2020 OT game). Interesting numbers for sure. Cheers |
