My analysis
The Toronto Blue Jays are doing their best to salvage something from this bitterly disappointing season, and their young hitters are rising to the challenge of cementing places on next year’s roster.
Loperfido and Barger were the heroes last night, and Ernie Clement had served up dingers in three straight games heading into the weekend. I’m backing the Toronto bats to make more noise this afternoon, setting up the Over as one of the more attractive picks on the board.
The pitching matchup also feels like a recipe for a high-scoring contest. Carson Fulmer has a 5.82 ERA across four starts in for the Los Angeles Angels in August, and he gave up three runs in four innings of work on Monday against the Kansas City Royals.
The hosts had success against Fulmer earlier in August too, with Vladimir Guerrero Jr. & Co. racking up five runs through the first three innings.
While Bowden Francis has been terrific this month with a 1.40 ERA, he’s had an erratic year and I see him offering up chances for a struggling Angels lineup that faced him less than two weeks ago. There should be fewer surprises for the visitors here.
The Blue Jays have trended towards the Over this year — it’s 69-57 overall — and that’s been a winning ticket in four of their last five games.
Neither offense had really come alive in this series until Toronto’s late fireworks last night, but I expect that to change over the weekend starting with an action-packed thriller this afternoon.

My analysis
I’m sticking with the hot bat in this Toronto line-up and picking Clement to add to his recent RBI haul.
Though his run of homering in three straight games ended last night, he still added another RBI with a clutch single that helped pull the Blue Jays back within striking distance.
Batting in the lower half of the order, there’s a good chance that Clement will have some base-runners to work with this afternoon, and he provided an RBI in his last matchup against Fulmer earlier this month.
