The Los Angeles Angels and New York Yankees line up for a doubleheader at Yankee Stadium on Wednesday, and Game 1 has the home team trading as a huge betting favorite.

A pair of rookies will take the hill. New York has 11-game winner Luis Gil toeing the rubber, while Los Angeles will send out Davis Daniel for just his fifth career start.

Our Angels vs. Yankees predictions and MLB picks are calling for New York to have a big day at the dish against Daniel and the Los Angeles bullpen.

Angels vs Yankees prediction

My best bet
Yankees team total Over 5.5 (+122 at FanDuel)

My analysis

The New York Yankees have scored six or more runs in seven of their past nine games and have mashed against right-handed hurlers all season with an MLB-high .342 wOBA. I particularly value New York ranking second with a 10.0% walk rate against righties, too.

Los Angeles Angels starter Davis Daniel will be making just his fifth big-league start, and the righty struggled mightily and surrendered 12 runs — 11 earned — on 15 hits through just nine innings in a two-start span against Oakland and Texas.

While Daniels managed to hold Detroit and Colorado in check, New York will be his first real test, with three of those four offenses all ranking in the bottom third of baseball in wOBA against righties.

Additionally, Daniel doesn’t have a swing-and-miss pitch mix, either. He’s leaned on his fastball 46.8% of the time and its average velocity is just 91.6 mph, per FanGraphs. Opposing hitters have a healthy 86.5% contract rate on his offerings inside the strike zone, too.

The Los Angeles bullpen is also vulnerable, with the Angels possessing a 27th-ranked 4.53 xFIP, 25th-highest 3.9 walks per nine innings, and the eighth-lowest strand rate with a 69.1 LOB%.

There is a sizable edge placing this bet through FanDuel, with bet365 hanging -105 odds for the Yankees to score six or more runs. The difference in the prices attaches a positive expected value of 14% to the +122 FanDuel odds.

Angels vs Yankees same-game parlay (SGP)

Yankees team total Over 5.5 runs

Jazz Chisholm Over 1.5 hits + runs + RBI

Juan Soto Over 1.5 hits + runs + RBI

Joining the Yankees has been a big boon for Jazz Chisholm’s production. He’s gone 9-for-30 with seven runs, eight RBI and a big-time .444 wOBA. Add his solid .333 wOBA against right-handed pitchers for the season, and I’m bullish about his chances to continue filling up the box score.

Juan Soto has been even better against right-handed arms, sporting a .441 wOBA that ranks fourth among qualified hitters, and his .418 mark over the past three seasons is third in baseball. Soto and Chisholm have both cleared this 1.5 prop total in five of the last seven games.
