It seems a bit cruel that the Toronto Blue Jays have to face Juan Soto in his home opener with the New York Mets.
Soto spurned the Blue Jays in free agency to join the Mets, but it’s New York that has struggled at the dish early on this season.
My Blue Jays predictions, like those struggles to continue, as Toronto hands the ball to Kevin Gausman for the opener of this weekend series.

Today’s Blue Jays best bet: Target Gausman
Kevin Gausman Over 0.5 Wins (+155 at BetVictor)
The Toronto Blue Jays come into this series feeling pretty good about themselves following a three-game sweep of the Washington Nationals and winners of four in a row overall.
This strong start by the Blue Jays has been fueled by some strong pitching, and they hope that continues on Friday when Kevin Gausman takes the mound.
Gausman got his year off to a solid start, limiting a dangerous Baltimore Orioles lineup to just two runs on three hits over six innings of work. The 34-year-old right-hander is still the Blue Jays' ace despite a bit of a down year in 2024, so his start against the O’s was encouraging, and I like his chances to keep that going against the New York Mets today.
The Mets enter their home opener with a 3-3 record after road series against the Houston Astros and Miami Marlins. The pitching has been good, but despite having Juan Soto in the lineup, the bats have really struggled to begin the year.
New York is hitting just .188 as a team so far; that ranks 26th in the MLB. The Mets also rank 21st in OPS and wRC+. If Gausman has his deadly splitter spinning well in this one it could be a long day for the home team.
The Mets counter Gausman with Tylor MeGill, who also started the season well, holding the Astros to one run on three hits over five innings, carrying over a strong September into 2025. However, this is a 29-year-old who’s pitched to a 5.03 expected ERA over his last 40 starts.
Meanwhile, the Blue Jays lineup has been better than advertised at this point. Bo Bichette looks like he’s found his pre-2024 form. Andrés Giménez apparently has a power bat, and George Springer has found the fountain of youth.
As a team, the Jays have the fourth-highest batting average, are ninth in OPS, and fifth in wRC+.
The Blue Jays spoil Soto’s home opener with Gausman pitching well enough to earn the win.
Today’s Blue Jays same-game parlay (SGP)
If there’s anything I know about early season baseball betting it’s to ride a hot streak and that’s exactly what George Springer is on.
The Blue Jays' outfielder is hitting .429 with a 1.187 OPS so far this season. He has multiple hits in four of his last five starts and has two or more total bases in five straight.
Meanwhile, his new teammate Anthony Santander hasn’t been as hot, but has three hits in his last two games and while it’s a small sample size, he has good numbers against Mets starter Tylor Megill.
Santander has two hits in three career ABs vs. Megill, with the hits being a double and a dinger. Give me theJays slugger to drive in a run on Friday.
