On the heels of a disastrous weekend that summed up their season, the Toronto Blue Jays try to climb off the mat this afternoon as they visit the slumping Chicago White Sox. The Blue Jays are coming off a sweep at the hands of the Tigers and, though the Toronto bats got going yesterday in an impressive comeback, they slipped to a 14-11 loss after another bullpen meltdown.

Still, this is a good bounceback spot for the visitors, who enter as clear favorites in the latest MLB odds against a Chicago team that’s dropped five in a row. Take a closer look at this May 27 matchup with my Blue Jays vs. White Sox predictions and MLB picks below.

Blue Jays vs White Sox prediction

My best bet
Under 8.5 (+105 at PROLINE+)

My analysis
If Toronto Blue Jays supporters are frustrated with their team’s erratic offense, the Chicago White Sox fanbase can sympathize. The White Sox have scored by far the fewest runs in the majors this season — 157 through 54 games (the next lowest is 200) — and their bats were quiet again this weekend against the Orioles.

With two offenses that are this tough to trust, the Under on a line of 8.5 is an attractive play here. It’s 7-3 in the last 10 meetings between these teams and I see that trend continuing today.

Chris Bassitt gets the ball for the Blue Jays and he flummoxed this Chicago lineup last week, throwing seven scoreless innings in a 9-2 win. The Toronto veteran has posted a 3.00 ERA across his past five starts, with 4+ strikeouts in each. I’m counting on his array of pitches to keep the Chicago hitters off balance again this afternoon and take some of the heat off a wobbling bullpen.

The visitors’ offense has been only marginally more convincing. Though the Blue Jays rallied with 11 runs yesterday, it’s no secret the visitors’ bats have blown hot and cold at the plate this season — and mostly cold.

Despite good at-bats from Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Bo Bichette, and Isiah Kiner-Falefa, they only managed a combined three runs across the first two games of the weekend series in Detroit. The wildcard with this pick is Nick Nastrini, the rookie White Sox starter. He was roughed up by the Blue Jays last time out, getting hooked after allowing eight runs in 3 1/3 innings.

However, this is a payback opportunity for the righty and Toronto has struggled to sustain good offense from one game to the next. Even if his control wavers, I see Nastrini providing a solid enough start to cash in the Under.

Blue Jays star player prop

My best bet
Danny Jansen Over 0.5 RBI (+112 at PROLINE+)

The idea of Danny Jansen hitting in the 2-hole likely didn’t feature much in the Blue Jays’ offseason planning, but the Toronto catcher has been in red-hot form since returning from the IL and he’s picked up the slack for some of his misfiring team-mates.

He's hitting .314 with a whopping .999 OPS through 27 games, and he’s coming off a two-hit outing yesterday against the Tigers. If Toronto is going to make a fast start and put Nastrini under pressure, Jansen is a leading candidate to deliver the clutch base hits.

Blue Jays vs White Sox spread and Over/Under analysis

  • It’s no surprise to see the White Sox as hefty home underdogs today, with confidence low after dropping eight of their past nine contests.

  • Toronto has owned this matchup in recent years and Guerrero Jr. & Co. are 8-1 in the last nine meetings between these teams, including a sweep at Guaranteed Rate Field in 2023.

  • The Blue Jays have trended toward the Under this year — it’s 30-22 overall — and they’ve stayed Under their team total in 18 of their past 29 games.

  • Chicago has scored 4+ runs just twice in its past 10 outings, and none of the hosts’ hitters have reached the 20-RBI mark yet in 2024.
