The New York Yankees finished July on a five-game win streak and my Blue Jays vs. Yankees predictions think they’ll keep rolling tonight as they face the Toronto Blue Jays, who waved the white flag at the trade deadline.
That stretch of victories has quietened some of the bubbling unease for the Yankees, and their sweep of the NL-leading Phillies earlier this week was a major statement.
Blue Jays vs Yankees prediction
My best bet
Yankees team total Over 4.5 (-125 at PROLINE+)
My analysis
The high-powered New York Yankees offense has rediscovered its swagger as we enter a critical stretch in the AL East division race — and DJ LeMahieu even joined the party with a six-RBI outing against the Phillies on Wednesday.
I expect another productive night at the plate here for the hosts, and this prop offers value for a Yankees team that has scored 5+ runs in six straight games while piling up 74 hits in that span.
Kevin Gausman takes the ball for the Toronto Blue Jays on the heels of largely steady starts in July, but his head-to-head clashes with New York’s power bats tell an ominous story.
Then there’s the depleted Toronto bullpen that’s light on experienced arms after moving Yimi Garcia and Nate Pearson at the trade deadline. That opens the door for late-innings damage, with Toronto's reliever group in flux.
Given the visitors’ erratic offense, I’m hesitant to take the Over 9.5, but a Yankees lineup that’s averaging 5.15 runs per game this year is well-placed to put at least five runs on the board tonight.
Blue Jays star player prop
My best bet
George Springer Over 0.5 RBI (+190 at PROLINE+)
My analysis
As the Blue Jays shift towards a youth movement in this lost season, we’re going to see lots of Spencer Horwitz, Davis Schneider, Addison Bargar, and Leo Jimenez. However, even in this roster evaluation phase, they'll still need some veteran hitters to surround their younger bats.
That includes George Springer in the lead-off spot, and he’s coming off his best month of the year, hitting .274 in July with 16 RBI.
Springer has seen plenty of New York starter Marcus Stroman over the years, going 4-for-16 with two doubles. Stroman brings an impressive 3.64 ERA into this contest, but his last five appearances have been rockier (5.64 ERA).
