The New York Yankees look to sweep the Milwaukee Brewers in the first game of Sunday’s MLB slate at Yankee Stadium. MLB odds list New York as a -135 favorite, while the total sits at 8.5.

My Brewers vs. Yankees prediction is targeting the total in this interleague matchup. Find out why in my MLB picks below.

My Brewers vs Yankees best bet: Over 8.5 (-110 at Caesars)

The New York Yankees shelled the Milwaukee Brewers with a 20-9 victory on Saturday. It wouldn’t be shocking if New York puts up another crooked number on Sunday, given right-hander Aaron Civale is slated to take the mound for Milwaukee.

Through 31 starts last season, Civale produced an 8-9 record with a 4.36 ERA and 1.30 WHIP. His underlying metrics were equally poor, as he ranked in the bottom half of the league in xBA, average exit velocity, and hard-hit rate.

These woes will likely continue against the Yankees, a team Civale is 1-4 against through six meetings, with a 5.52 ERA. Nine or more total runs were scored in four of those six outings.

The good news for the Brewers is that they should be able to contribute to the scoreboard, considering right-hander Marcus Stroman gets the ball for New York. Like Civale, Stroman struggled in 2024, finishing with a 4.31 ERA and 1.47 WHIP.

Analytically, Stroman was even worse, producing a 4.94 xERA and .271 xBA. He also ranked in the 36th percentile or lower in average exit velocity, walk rate, and hard-hit rate. On paper, this pitching matchup figures to be just as poor as Saturday’s, a game that ended with 29 total runs.

Caesars QuickPick: Our Brewers vs Yankees same-game parlay (SGP)

Over 8.5

Paul Goldschmidt Over 0.5 RBI

Christian Yelich Over 0.5 RBI

If we’re backing this game to feature 9+ runs, we need some hitters from each team to push some runs across the plate. Two great candidates to do so are New York’s Paul Goldschmidt and Milwaukee’s Christian Yelich.

Through five plate appearances against Civale, Goldschmidt is 3-for-5 with two doubles. Meanwhile, Yelich boasts a .500 slugging percentage through 15 plate appearances against Stroman. Both Goldschmidt and Yelich logged an RBI on Saturday.
