Cardinals vs Red Sox Props Picks & Best Bets for Sunday Night Baseball

Miles Mikolas' first start of the season was an encouraging one, but the Red Sox — led by Alex Bregman — will cause him greater headaches than the Angels did.

The St. Louis Cardinals and Boston Red Sox are doing double duty today, with the second half of their doubleheader getting top billing on Sunday Night Baseball.

After a slow start to their afternoon matchup, I expect more offense in the nightcap, and Alex Bregman and Nolan Arenado are two of the star hitters to target after their strong early returns this season.

My MLB player props and Cardinals vs Red Sox predictions take a closer look at this marquee contest.

Cardinals vs Red Sox props for Sunday Night Baseball

Nolan Arenado Over 1.5 total bases (+126 at Caesars)

The St. Louis Cardinals lead the majors in batting average through the first 10 days of the season, and Nolan Arenado is a big part of that consistency at the plate.

Arenado entered the weekend with a .357 average and 10 hits, including three doubles and a homer. I see him continuing that hot streak tonight, especially with the Boston Red Sox sending an inexperienced starter — Hunter Dobbins — to the mound, and this price for Over 1.5 bases jumps out to me.

The St. Louis bats took a shine to Fenway Park in Friday’s matchup, piling up nine runs on 13 hits. Arenado contributed a double that night, and he smacked nine of his 16 dingers last year on the road.

He also got on base during the first game of today’s doubleheader and poses a real threat from the cleanup spot in this dangerous Cardinals lineup.

Alex Bregman Over 0.5 RBI (+133 at Caesars)

Alex Bregman has wasted no time making himself at home in Boston, and he brought a seven-game hit streak into Sunday’s action.

As a key part of the Red Sox’s busy offseason, Bregman looks like a lock in the No. 3 hole, and his disciplined approach at the plate has led to four RBI across his last two outings.

Though he’s seen little of Cardinals starter Miles Mikolas, I’m picking the former Houston Astros infielder to get the better of the visitors’ righty and add to his RBI tally tonight. All of Bregman’s RBI this season have come off right-handed pitchers, and he finished with a .274 batting average against righties last year.

Putting Bregman behind Rafael Devers in the order hasn’t had the expected results yet for Boston, with Devers off to a rough start this season — he did connect for his first home run of the campaign in Sunday's first game — but there’s big run potential in the hosts’ lineup, and my MLB picks see a high-scoring battle on deck tonight.

Miles Mikolas Over 5.5 hits allowed (-125 at Caesars)

Mikolas caught the eye in his first start of the season, allowing two runs on two hits through 5 1/3 innings of work. But that came against the Los Angeles Angels, and I expect a rockier outing tonight.

The St. Louis veteran finished with a 5.35 ERA last year as the decline continued from his 3.29 ERA in 2022. He allowed 6+ hits in 11 of his final 14 starts in 2024, which should be music to the Red Sox's ears here.

Devers could be the biggest thorn in Mikolas’ side, notching three hits in five at-bats in that head-to-head matchup.

Mikolas will have the experience edge over his Red Sox counterpart on the mound, but that may not count for much if the hosts find the same gear as Friday night, where they scorched through the Cardinals pitching staff with 16 hits.
