The New York Yankees’ eight-game winning streak was snapped on Friday night at the hands of the Los Angeles Dodgers, who, in turn, picked up a much-needed seventh victory in 10 games.

My analysis
Consistent offense is an issue that persisted on Friday in the Los Angeles Dodgers 2-1 win, with L.A. failing to hit the New York Yankees’ most vulnerable starting pitcher in Cody Poteet. If you look at the sum of the parts over the last two weeks, this is a team that is not walking as much as it normally does and striking out a bit more.
Speaking of strikeouts, today's starter, Nestor Cortes, is still sitting just higher than the league average in that department at 29 years of age, but once again, he’s pitching to a whole host of fly balls. This is trouble because the Dodgers are not only the top fly-ball team in the league, but their .717 OPS against fly-ball pitchers ranks 10th in the league. Now they’ll have the benefit of hitting in the bandbox known as Yankee Stadium.
On the flip side, L.A. will start a ground-ball pitcher in Gavin Stone. Despite what we said about the park, this should play into the Yankees’ hands as a team with the second-best batting average in the league against ground-ballers at .305, which has come along with a beefy .882 OPS.
New York’s offense continues to walk at a high clip, which might hurt the young Stone, who struggled a bit in this area over the years. I like a lot of offense here despite the Dodgers’ recent plateau.

Aaron Judge is sporting a .419 average this year with a .903 slugging percentage against ground-ball pitchers in 41 plate appearances, and his 28 total bases ranks just outside the Top 10 in baseball in that split. He’s got a hit in four of his last five games and seven in all over that span.
Then, it’s got to be Freddie Freeman here for me. Yes, he’s facing a lefty — a matchup that’s been tricky this season — but even then, he’s hit .236, and he’s also historically been able to handle lefties. What’s catching my eye here is the fact Freeman likes the ball up in the zone and, as a result, is hitting .344 off of fly-ballers with a booming 58 total bases.
