Guardians vs Phillies Prediction, Picks & Odds for Today’s MLB Game

Joey Cantillo is set to make his MLB debut for Cleveland this afternoon, but our MLB picks don't like his chances against a Phillies' offense that just strung together eight runs last night.

The Philadelphia Phillies’ offense woke up in a big way Saturday night with an 8-0 shutout win over the Cleveland Guardians.

They’ll look to take the series in Sunday afternoon’s rubber match at Citizens Bank Park, and my Guardians vs. Phillies predictions like their chances of doing so. Find out why in my MLB picks for this July 28 showdown.

My analysis
It was only a matter of time before the Philadelphia Phillies broke through offensively, and it came against former Philadelphia prospect Carlos Carrasco. Bryce Harper, Brandon Marsh, Kyle Schwarber, and Nick Castellanos all went deep as the Phils took it to the Cleveland Guardians.

The fact four players hit homers to go with a dozen hits on Saturday shows the Phillies’ offensive prowess. Philadelphia now has a chance to tee off against Cleveland starter Joey Cantillo

Cantillo has struggled in Triple-A, with the lefty sporting a 4.64 ERA over 95 innings. This Phillies' lineup is not an ideal matchup you want in your big-league debut.

The Phillies are 38-17 at home after Saturday’s win, while the Guardians dropped to 29-27 on the road. That’s impressive for Cleveland, but not when you compare it to its 33-15 record at home.

Finally, Cleveland’s offensive struggles can’t be overlooked. The Guardians have scored just five runs in their last four games and 13 in their last eight.

Guardians vs Phillies same-game parlay (SGP)

Phillies moneyline

Over 9.5

Trea Turner 1+ hit

Neither the Phillies nor the Guardians are starting a pitcher with much experience on Sunday afternoon. Philadelphia’s offense woke up on Saturday night, and the Guardians could put a few on the board this afternoon against Kolby Allard (making his season debut).

I’m going with Trea Turner to get a hit once again to close out the same-game parlay. He’s batting .332 after a 1-for-4 outing last night
