The Philadelphia 76ers look to continue their dominance over the San Antonio Spurs when the two teams clash on Friday night.
Philly has rung up nine wins in the last 10 meetings, yet the books aren't buying it, tabbing them as 5.5-point road underdogs in the NBA odds.
Our 76ers vs. Spurs prediction has the scoreboard lights working overtime in this matchup of teams going nowhere this season.
Read on for my NBA picks for Friday, March 21.
76ers vs Spurs prediction
My best bet: Over 240.5 (-110 at bet365)
My analysis
There's been a whole lot of losing for these teams of late, and while they are technically still alive in the chase for a play-in berth, the truth is they've been in extended garbage time for months.
The Philadelphia 76ers have just two wins in its last eight outings, clubbed last time out by the OKC Thunder to the tune of 133-100.
Six of those eight losses have been by double digits.
The roster is running on spare parts, with their core stars of Joel Embiid and Paul George already shut down for the year.
On top of that, Tyrese Maxey (back), Andre Drummond (toe), Kyle Lowry (hip), Kelly Oubre (knee), and Adem Bona (ankle) are out against San Antonio.
Lonnie Walker IV (concussion) is listed as probable.
The San Antonio Spurs have done a bit more winning of late, taking down the New York Knicks 120-105 on Wednesday. That put them to five wins over the last 15.
Somehow, they are only three games back of the Phoenix Suns who hold the 10th and final play-in spot in the West.
San Antonio doesn't have the horses to get them in, as they've already shut down Victor Wembanyama and De'Aaron Fox for the year. They'll also be without center Charles Bassey (knee).
Still, the Spurs have been decent on offense, averaging 118.3 points per game over the last 15, while the 76ers are putting up 112.5 points themselves.
The real issue is on the other end of the court, where these teams are bleeding points.
Over the last 15 games, San Antonio is last in the NBA in points allowed, surrendering a whopping 124 per contest. Teams are shooting 50.3% from the field and 37.4% from distance.
Philly ranks right behind them at 123.6 points, allowing opponents to shoot 49.5% from the field and 38.3% from 3-point range.
It's no surprise, then, that the 76ers' Over record is 7-1-1 over the last nine, with the Spurs cashing the Over in eight of the last 10.
The bad defense should stay true to form, with points galore to land you a win on the total.
76ers vs Spurs same-game parlay
Let's tack on a pair of guys benefiting from the dearth of star injuries to their respective squads.
Spurs rook Stephon Castle was supposed to be good, though I'm not sure he was expected to be this smooth and explosive.
He went for 22 points, three rebounds, and three dimes in the win over New York. He's topped his 21.5 scoring line in three of the last four, and should clear against a nameless Philly squad.
The one guy on the Sixers making a name for himself, though, is Quentin Grimes. The trade deadline pickup from Dallas has taken the opportunity presented and run with it.
Last game, he went for 28 points and five assists in the loss to OKC. He's scored at least 28 points in five straight.
He should continue his showcase against San Antonio, too.
