The Boston Celtics hit the road tonight to face Paolo Banchero and the Orlando Magic at the Kia Center.
Banchero continues to play some of his best basketball of the season and I’ll dive into why I expect that to be the case once again in my Celtics vs. Magic predictions.

My best bet: Paolo Banchero Over 28.5 points (-110 at bet365)
My analysis
The Orlando Magic are going to be in the Play-In Tournament but they’ve been definitely making a push for a top six spot as well. Although Orlando won’t catch the Detroit Pistons in sixth, this squad has been playing very well and Paolo Banchero is a huge reason for it.
The former first overall pick has cashed the Over in points in seven of his last 10 appearances and just erupted for 33 on Tuesday in a victory over the Atlanta Hawks. He averaged 29.8 ppg in March across 15 outings and has averaged 30 points per night in April so far.
For the season, the Duke product is scoring 26.1 ppg but he’s literally unstoppable right now. Banchero has posted 10 games since the beginning of March where he’s showed out for at least 30 points. I know the Celtics are stout defensively and the forward only had 21 points against them earlier in the campaign, but it’s impossible to ignore his brilliance right now.
For what it’s worth, he always seems to play better against the Eastern Conference as well, averaging 28.1 points. Banchero will keep up his hot streak tonight and help the Magic potentially extend their three-game winning streak to four.

While Banchero is undoubtedly the main man in Orlando, Franz Wagner is a key piece as well. He’s averaging 24.2 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 4.8 assists. We’ll focus on his playmaking here. The German has cashed the Over in dimes in four straight contests, compiling 6, 5, 7, and 6 assists.
He’s the Magic’s primary playmaker alongside Banchero and has been making a point of being the best facilitator he can lately. Wagner is averaging 4.6 assists at home and 6.0 dimes in April. Although the Boston Celtics are top five in fewest assists allowed, I’ll ride his hot hand as a passer.
Boston is a +205 underdog on the moneyline tonight. That’s definitely a big surprise considering they’re in second place in the East and have gone 9-1 in their last 10 games. The Celtics don’t have any notable absences here either, with Al Horford the only player ruled out.
Joe Mazzulla’s group has won three of their last four meetings with Orlando and beat them 121-94 back in January. The C’s are also winners of three straight. On top of that, Boston has an impressive 33-7 away record.
Orlando, meanwhile, is just 21-19 at home. I am expecting the Magic to keep this one competitive as Banchero will ball out, but the Celtics moneyline offers immense value considering the odds and their success on the road.
