NBA player props for April 29

Bobby Portis Over 13.5 points (-115 at bet365)

Bobby Portis has a total of 13.5 for Game 5. That could be his Over/Under on points or people he’s going to piss off on Tuesday.

Since returning from his suspension for using a banned substance, Portis has been extra prickly. The forward has stirred the pot in this series with the Indiana Pacers, getting in the face of their players during Game 4’s loss.

Portis needs to focus that energy on scoring if the Milwaukee Bucks want to avoid an early playoff exit. He’s been up and down in this quarterfinal set, scoring only four points in Game 1 but bouncing back with 28 points in Game 2.

In the past two contests, Portis has put forth 10 and 14 points, shooting a collective 11-for-23 from the floor. With the series swinging back to Indiana, his scoring prop comes in at 13.5 O/U for Game 5.

Portis has recorded 14+ points in five of his seven games back from suspension, including his three final games of the regular season. And with Damian Lillard out for the season, the Bucks need someone to pick up the scoring slack.

Portis played just 25 minutes in Game 1 and Game 4 — both blowout wins for the Pacers — but logged 32 minutes in Game 3 and Game 4, with those being closer contests. With Milwaukee fighting for its life in Game 5, expect Portis’ floor time to peak.

Player projections range from 15.4 to a high of 17.0 points for the burly forward, with my number at 15.5 points tonight. Some sharp markets have climbed through the opener of 12.5 O/U and now have the Over 13.5 juiced to -139, but you can get that same result at -115 at bet365.

Cade Cunningham Over 1.5 threes (-115 at bet365)

The Detroit Pistons are in desperation mode, down 1-3 to the New York Knicks with the series swinging to MSG.

That means the Pistons need plenty of points from star Cade Cunningham and some big buckets from beyond the arc. Cunningham isn’t a great 3-point shooter and is a collective 4-for-16 from distance in this series, including a 0-3 outing from outside in Game 4.

However, with Detroit’s back against the wall and game script saying the Pistons play from behind (5.5-point underdogs), Cunningham could feel the need to press on those 3-point attempts.

On the season, Cunningham attempted six 3-pointers per game, knocking down an average of 2.1 of those long-range looks. Before the postseason, the shifty guard had made two or more triples in eight of his final 13 games of the schedule. He also connected on two or more 3-pointers in all four of his regular-season run-ins with the Knicks (combined 13-for-25).

Player projections call for plenty of points from Cunningham tonight, with some models as high as 28.5 points. Those same projections are bullish on his 3-point makes, as well. Even the forecasts that come in lower on points are still calling for two triples from Detroit’s top gun.

Kris Dunn Over 4.5 assists + rebounds (+110 at bet365)

Kris Dunn had a dismal offensive effort in Game 4, shooting just 1-for-9 from the floor and finishing with three points in the loss to the Denver Nuggets (1-for-6 from 3-point).

That left Clippers coach Tyronn Lue no choice but to sit the stocky guard in the fourth quarter, limiting Dunn to 21 minutes on Saturday. Of course, Game 4 came down to a last-second putback from the Nuggets, and Lue took flak from the media for not having his best defensive lineup on the floor for that final possession.

Dunn isn’t an offensive force by any means, but it’s his defense and rebounding that are so valuable to the Los Angeles Clippers. He’s been a beast on the glass in this series (23 total rebounds) and has been vital in bottling up Denver guard Jamal Murray.

Game 5 projections aren’t shying away from Dunn’s minutes, with most pegging him for around 25 minutes. And within that action, those models are bullish on Dunn’s assists and rebounds.

His assists forecasts range from 2.7 to 4.1 tonight while his rebounding predictions sit between 3.2 and 4.0 boards. Even at the low end of those projections, Dunn is topping his combo total of 4.5 assists + rebounds.

My numbers come out to just shy of three dimes and 3.4 rebounds, which should have the Over 4.5 assists + rebounds prop priced closer to -250. However, you can find odds of +110 at bet365.
