Spurs vs Jazz Prediction, Picks, and Odds for Tonight’s NBA Game

Offense has been scarce for Utah to start the season, and they'll be in trouble as they take on Victor Wembanyama and the Spurs tonight.

A couple of sputtering teams take the court tonight at Delta Center when the Utah Jazz, who are still seeking their first win, host the 1-3 San Antonio Spurs.

Utah's offense has been abysmal to begin the season — a big reason why they remain winless — and that issue will be exacerbated tonight as leading scorer Lauri Markkanen is listed as questionable.

My Spurs vs. Jazz predictions and NBA picks break down why the hosts should put up another low-scoring effort on Thursday, October 31.

Spurs vs Jazz prediction

My best bet
Jazz team total Under 111.5 (-115 at bet365)

My analysis

The Utah Jazz suffered their fourth straight loss on Tuesday, this time falling 113-96 to the Kings. To make matters worse, Lauri Markkanen scored just seven points after leaving the game early with back spasms.

Utah’s offensive woes should continue tonight against the San Antonio Spurs, as Markkanen is listed as questionable due to those back spasms.

Even with their star power forward in the lineup, the Jazz have been the NBA’s worst team offensively in the early going, sporting a measly 102 points per game. Outside of the season opener where they scored 124 points, the Jazz have averaged 94.67 points over their last three outings.

The Spurs have been brutal offensively themselves, but coach Gregg Popovich has them playing solid defense as always. San Antonio is surrendering just 109.3 points per game — the eighth-best mark in the league entering Thursday.

A lot of that comes down to defensive rebounding, where the Spurs rank second in the NBA (37.5 per game), led by sophomore center Victor Wembanyama, who’s collecting a team-high 11 boards and 8.8 defensive rebounds per game. Whether the Jazz have a banged-up Markkanen tonight or not, it’s hard to see them eclipsing 111.5 points in this one.

Spurs vs Jazz same-game parlay

Jazz team total Under 111.5

Spurs moneyline

Victor Wembanyama Over 11.5 rebounds

Although both teams rank near the bottom of the offensive leaderboards, the Spurs have been significantly better defensively, and that could give them the edge tonight.

The Jazz are giving up 50 opponent rebounds per game — second-worst in the NBA — so I like Wemby to cash the Over in this matchup.
