Spurs vs Warriors Odds, Picks, and Predictions Tonight: Vassell Shines With Wemby Sidelined

Wth Curry and Wemby out, this Spurs-Warriors matchup brings far less star power, but our NBA picks think that creates more than enough opportunity for Devin Vassell to shine.

The Golden State Warriors and San Antonio Spurs square off tonight at Chase Center, but the wow factor has taken a hit with both Steph Curry and Victor Wembanyama out injured.

The Warriors, who were boosted by good news following the MRI on Curry’s ankle, are 7-3 in their last 10 games, but they’re coming off a disappointing 125-122 loss to the Chicago Bulls on Thursday.

The hosts are double-digit NBA odds favorites here against a Spurs team that’s lost seven of its last nine contests but pushed the Sacramento Kings to the limit in a 131-129 loss last time out.

Find out where the best bet lies for tonight’s matchup in my NBA picks and predictions for Spurs vs. Warriors on Saturday, March 9.

Spurs vs Warriors predictions

Wemby mania has naturally been the No.1 Spurs storyline this season, but don’t sleep on Devin Vassell’s growth as the second option on this young San Antonio roster.

Vassell is a clean fit next to Wembanyama, and he’s taken his scoring up a notch over the past month as Gregg Popovich’s men look to keep building towards a bright future.

He lit up the Kings for 30 points earlier this week, making 11 of his 18 shots, and I see him putting on a show again tonight while soaking up a chunk of the touches vacated by Wemby.

Vassell averaged 22.5 points in February, including 43% from downtown, and he’s going to have every chance to pad his numbers while Wembanyama recovers from an ankle injury.

He scored efficiently against Golden State back in November, knocking down four triples on the way to 24 points, and the Warriors enter today’s matchup on the heels of shaky defensive efforts against the Bulls and Boston Celtics over the last week.

There are question marks around both offenses tonight, but Vassell looks the likeliest answer for the visitors and I’m jumping on the odds for the Over here.

My best bet: Devin Vassell Over 22.5 points (-113 at FanDuel)

Spurs vs Warriors same-game parlay

Devin Vassell Over 22.5 points

Jonathan Kuminga Over 21.5 points

Under 227.5

Just as Wemby’s absence opens the door for a big Vassell game, Curry’s injury should put the ball in Jonathan Kuminga’s hands more often — and the Over on the Kuminga points prop is an appealing pick here.
He’s had 20 or more points in four of his last six games, including a 24-point night against the Toronto Raptors last Friday.

Though I’ve picked the Over on two points props, this battle doesn’t have the feel of a shootout. With both teams missing their deadliest scorer, it’s a little surprising to see the total as high as 227.5 tonight and that feels like an opportunity to cash in.

The trends point to the Under, which is 8-2 in Golden State’s past 10 games and 6-3-1 for San Antonio in that same span. The Under is also 6-3-1 in the last 10 matchups between these teams.

Spurs vs Warriors spread and Over/Under analysis

At 13-50, the Spurs are heading for an early lottery pick and they’ve lost seven of the past nine games. Even so, the 11.5-point line feels a little high, with both teams 7-3 ATS in their past 10 contests.

The Warriors aren’t likely to climb above the play-in line at this stage, but they’re only one game in the loss column behind the Dallas Mavericks, who currently own the No.8 seed.

The hosts will take any win they can get tonight at Chase Center, but a double-digit margin is a big ask against an athletic San Antonio team with nothing to lose.

The Warriors have won the past five meetings between these teams, but Curry’s absence tonight makes most of those historical trends less relevant.

I’ve picked the Under in my SGP, with streakier shooters pressed into bigger roles. The Spurs are only averaging 112.4 ppg — and that was before Wembanyama’s injury.

This is such a Steph-centric Golden State offense that a drop-off feels almost inevitable. Barring a vintage Klay Thompson heat-check performance, the Under feels like the safer play, and I see the hosts relying on a Draymond Green-led defense to grind out a win here.
