Suns vs Clippers Prediction, Picks, and Odds for Tonight’s NBA Game

The Phoenix Suns already beat Los Angeles in a close game to start the year, but they'll win in a more dominant fashion this time around.

It’s a quick turnaround for the Los Angeles Clippers after a gut-wrenching loss yesterday, but there’s no time to dwell on that with a dangerous Phoenix Suns team waiting for them tonight.

L.A. slipped to 2-2 with last night’s 106-105 setback against Portland, and my Suns vs Clippers predictions point to more scares for the hosts on Halloween night as Phoenix’s offense clicks into gear.

Read on for my top NBA picks for this October 31 showdown, with the action taking place in the Intuit Dome at 10:30 p.m. ET

Suns vs Clippers prediction

My best bet
Suns -4.5 (-110 at bet365)

My analysis
So far, so good for the Mike Budenholzer era in the desert.

With a 3-1 record after a tough early schedule, the Phoenix Suns are showing they belong in any conversation about Western Conference contenders — and I’m picking them to continue their hot start here.

We saw these two collide last week, with the Suns edging an overtime thriller, but there’s a roadmap for a more comfortable Phoenix victory tonight against a Los Angeles Clippers team still without key man Kawhi Leonard.

The visitors’ star power is no secret, and it feels like a trump card here, even with Bradley Beal on the injury report.

Devin Booker and Kevin Durant combined for 63 points in Monday’s win over the Los Angeles Lakers — and after seeing Anfernee Simons pour in 25 points against the Clippers last night, I like the prospect of Phoenix’s sharpshooters dragging James Harden and Ivica Zubac into mismatches on the perimeter.

Bench production has been a huge plus for the Suns, too, with Royce O’Neale, Mason Plumlee, Grayson Allen, and rookie Ryan Dunn giving Coach Bud quality minutes.

That unit has helped to swing a few games already, and I give them a slight edge over an L.A. bench mob that had been equally steady before a shakier effort against Portland.

Then there’s the rest advantage for Phoenix. The Clippers are coming off a hard-fought clash with the Blazers, and it’s fair to wonder whether high-usage Harden will be as effective on the second night of a back-to-back set.

I’m laying the points with the Suns and banking on some fireworks from the Booker-Durant pairing.

Suns vs Clippers same-game parlay

Suns -4.5

Suns team total Over 113.5

Normal Powell Over 19.5 points

This 113.5 line is right at the Suns’ average through the first four games, and there’s been more cohesion with Tyus Jones stepping into the point guard role.

Phoenix scored 109 points on Monday despite just 31% shooting from 3-point range, and Durant has piled up at least 30 points in three straight outings. The visitors have also already had the Intuit Dome experience so there’s familiarity with the unique surroundings too.

With Paul George’s departure this summer and Leonard’s absence, there’s a boatload of shots up for grabs in this Clippers offense — and Norman Powell hasn’t been shy about grabbing a chunk of those touches.

Powell finished with 30 points last night on the heels of a 37-point effort against the Denver Nuggets at the weekend. I like his chances of getting to the 20-point mark here.

Suns vs Clippers spread and Over/Under analysis

  • The Suns posted a steady 24-17 mark on the road last season, and they get the favorites tag here against an L.A. team that’s dropped both home games so far this year.
  • The Clippers went 8-for-29 from downtown against Phoenix in their season opener, and they’ve lost six of their past nine matchups with the Suns.
  • L.A. has hit the 1H Under in 26 of its last 43 outings, but the Over has been a winning ticket in five of the past six meetings between these teams.
  • The Clippers have cashed in the Under in their last three contests and haven’t scored more than 112 points in any of their four games — which helps explain the O/U total of 221.5.
