It's been a brutal season for the Seton Hall Pirates who have gone just 1-9 against high-major foes with an average scoring margin of -9.7 points per game. They've even struggled to get past mid-major opponents, losing to lowly Monmouth, Hofstra, and Fordham.
The Pirates are coming off a 28-point home loss to a St. John's squad that has an efficient offense, pushes the pace, and forces a ton of turnovers on defense. Unfortunately for them, the Marquette Golden Eagles are built in a similar way.
The Golden Eagles are 24th in adjusted offensive efficiency and 46th in average length of possession while ranking eighth in opponent turnover rate. They should also be extremely motivated since they are coming off a disappointing home loss to Xavier and were upset at the Prudential Center last year, losing 78-75 as 5-point faves.
The Pirates have been known for hard-nosed defense during the Shaheen Holloway regime but have regressed in that area this season. They are outside the Top 250 in opponent 2-point percentage (53.1%), opponent 3-point percentage (35%), and opponent free throw rate. The one thing they do well is force turnovers but the Golden Eagles take care of the ball, ranking second in the country in turnover rate.
