The Players Era Tournament gets going on Tuesday night, and one of the more intriguing matchups of the evening is Notre Dame meeting Rutgers.
Both teams enter this game off a shocking loss but my Rutgers vs. Notre Dame predictions believe the Scarlet Knights are in a better spot to bounce back.

My analysis
It's a tough spot for me, given that Notre Dame head coach Micah Shrewsberry finds himself near the top ten of my power rankings, but also knowing that Rutgers head coach Steve Pikiell has a lifetime 1-3 record against him. I also know that Rutgers has a talent advantage here. Inevitably, I expect that to win out, and I'm making the Scarlet Knights moneyline my best. Let's talk about why.
As everyone knows, high-end recruiting classes in college basketball are only sometimes an indicator of success. It's about a 50/50 proposition, part of the sports appeal. Rutgers has learned some of that so far this season after bringing in the top class in the country, according to some, and already having one non-power six loss. It's about time talent starts producing, though, and the matchup in this spot is favorable.
I'm worried about Rutgers's offensive advantages overwhelming Notre Dame because of the overall talent deficit and their advantages on that side of the ball.
Notre Dame has allowed an above-average rate of points on attack & kicks at .97 PPP, multiple cutting actions, and in transition. The cutting actions feel like they'll be too much to overcome. In perimeter-cutting actions and significant cuts, Notre Dame has allowed over a point per possession and is well above the national average in college basketball. These are the foundation elements of the Rutgers offense. Notre Dame is not Monmouth in any way, but it's worth noting that they grade out similar defending-cutting actions, and Rutgers diced them up. In that game, Zach Martini scored a season-high 18 points, and Rutgers had its most efficient offensive game of the season.
If Rutgers can get a decent effort on the defensive side of the ball, I feel good here. There's more value on the moneyline, though, especially against such a good prep coach.

This number needs to be clarified for a guy who's averaging almost this so far this season. Martini isn't the primary offensive option and struggled against Kennesaw State, so that's probably the main driver here. However, this matchup is a good one for him, which makes a number of +450 way too appealing.
