The St. John’s Red Storm can put the cherry on top of the sundae when they meet the Marquette Golden Eagles at Fiserv Forum.

The Red Storm has stormed to a Big East title, and my St. John’s vs. Marquette Golden Eagles predictions expect the Johnnies to prevail.

My analysis
The St. John’s Red Storm have overtaken the Big East and the nation.

They weren’t supposed to be the Big East champs, but head coach Rick Pitino has successfully demonstrated how to turn around a college basketball program.

Before their 70-64 home victory on February 4, the Johnnies had lost six straight to the Marquette Golden Eagles. They’ve shown throughout this season this group isn’t the same Red Storm squad getting chased by the wind.

St. John’s is 6-1 straight up since that February victory, and I’m betting the well-rested Red Storm with the second-best KenPom defense leads the way to victory.

The Johnnies turn swipes and steals into buckets, crash the glass, and allow 46% shooting from inside and 32% from outside the arc.

They’ll meet a Marquette squad that doesn’t turn the ball over much, but their shooters can be inconsistent, and the Golden Eagles don’t clean either side of the glass consistently.

That will become problematic as St. John’s is elite on the glass. Zuby Ejiofor snags 4.1 offensive boards per away game, and he’ll hurt Marquette individually while the rest of the cast add seven per away clash.

St. John’s is everything we want in a road dog. The Red Storm are elite defenders, rebounders, and 7-2 SU as the visiting team. Marquette is tough, but this is a bad matchup for the Golden Eagles.

St. John’s vs Marquette same-game parlay (SGP)

St. John's moneyline

RJ Luis Over 1.5 threes

Zuby Ejiofor Over 8.5 rebounds

St. John’s could be without leading 3-point shooter Aaron Scott, but that only makes it much more important for RJ Luis to knock down shots.

Luis drains 2.2 of his three attempts from downtown on the road, but I expect him to let it fly without Scott on the floor.

Marquette defends the arc relatively well, but the Red Storms average 16 dimes per night; they will find Luis, and he will deliver as he has in his last three.

Ejiofor’s four O-Boards per night could see a spike; Marquette rebounds poorly, and Ejiofor is a tough-as-nails rebounder and has cleared his prop mark in four of five.
