A massive game for seeding purposes for both the SEC and NCAA Tournaments takes place early this afternoon when the Tennessee Volunteers travel to College Station to take on the Texas A&M Aggies.

My analysis
The Tennessee Volunteers are the six-seed in SEC Tournament projections and a two-seed in Joe Lunardi’s ESPN Bracketology. Meanwhile, the Texas A&M Aggies are the four-seed in the SEC and a three-seed in Bracketology. This is a massive game for seeding purposes for two hot teams.
Tennessee has won four of its last five and this will only be its fourth time all season entering as an underdog. The Vols won one of the previous three straight up and covered in two of the three. Texas A&M is coming in off a loss but preceded that with a five-game winning streak.
Both teams are excellent rebounding teams with great defense and neither is great on offense. However, the Vols are much more efficient and do not rely as heavily on offensive rebounds and free-throw attempts to get points. They are ranked 29th in KenPom’s offensive efficiency and average 74.6 points per game on only 67.6 possessions per contest, which ranks 304th in the nation.
Meanwhile, the Aggies rank 52nd in offensive efficiency and average 73.7 points on 69.8 possessions. They have an issue with turnovers at 12.3 per contest (228th) and allow 7.9 steals per game (326th) to their opponents. The Vols are just the opposite, with very few turnovers and steals allowed.
The triple threat of Tennessee's defensive guards between Zakai Zeigler, Chaz Lanier, and Igor Milicic Jr. will give fits to the Aggies backcourt of Wade Taylor IV and Zhuric Phelps. Taylor averages 2.4 turnovers per game and Phelps averages 3.2. I expect those numbers to rise today.
Tennessee has only lost one game all season in which its opponent scored fewer than 70 points: a 53-51 rock fight with the Auburn Tigers. Meanwhile, the Aggies have only scored 70+ in two of their last 10 games. I like the Vols to use their defense and a more efficient offense to pull off this minor upset on the road.

While this total is extremely low, I would not be surprised if neither team reached the 70-point mark here. The Volunteers either allow their opponent to reach 70 or more or hold them to below 57 points in SEC play. I expect the latter in this contest.
