Commanders vs Buccaneers expert picks & predictions
Pick: Olamide Zaccheaus Over 37.5 receiving yards (-115 at Caesars)
Opportunity knocks, and Josh Ingis expects Washington Commanders WR Olamide Zaccheaus will answer.
"Zaccheaus was an afterthought on this roster at the beginning of the year. He was WR4 at best behind Terry McLaurin, Johan Dotson (traded), Luke McCaffrey, and maybe even Dyami Brown and Noah Brown. But 17 games can make a big difference, as the former undrafted WR playing for his third team in as many years has become the No. 2 WR in this offense."
Over the last three weeks of the regular season, Zaccheaus led Washington in receiving yards and trailed only Detroit's Amon-Ra St. Brown for the league lead in that stretch. A Bucs secondary dealing with several injuries only opens the door further for the man called O.Z.
"Zaccheaus had a closing receiving total of 34.5 yards last week, and this adjustment to 37.5 yards this week is not enough. He has more yards, more receptions, more receptions of 20+ yards, and more TDs than McLaurin since Week 15. He'll have a big role in a potential shootout, especially with a quarterback that's looked great in comeback mode."
Commanders vs Buccaneers prop pick
Pick: Bucky Irving Over 87.5 rushing yards (-115 at Caesars)
Rohit Ponnaiya is eyeing Bucky Irving and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers ground game tonight
"The rookie emerged as one of the league's best running backs down the stretch, racking up three 100-yard games in December. Despite weighing just 195 pounds, Irving proved can be a workhorse with Rachaad White phased out after a costly fumble against Dallas.
"Irving logged 25 carries for 152 yards in Week 13 and carried the ball 20 times for 113 yards in Week 17 before finishing the season with a 19-carry, 89-yard performance versus the Saints."
The Commanders are among the worst teams in the league at stopping the run, and that's not going to suddenly get fixed in the postseason.
Jayden Daniels prop pick
Pick: Jayden Daniels Over 0.5 interceptions (-125 at Caesars)
Jeremy Jones' Jayden Daniels spotlight sees the rookie hucking the ball with regularity to help force the Commanders through to the next round.
"Daniels has attempted at least 30 passes in eight of his last nine games, excluding Week 18 when he only played the first half. Additionally, he has thrown seven of his nine interceptions during the second half of the season, with all of them coming against zone coverage. The Bucs run zone on 84.0% of dropbacks this season, which is the second most in the NFL."
He may very well find paydirt, but that doesn't mean he won't also get picked off.
Commanders vs Buccaneers SNF same-game parlay
Josh closes out tonight's picks by targeting Zacceaus on the milestone yards market, bumping his best bet up to 50+ receiving yards, while also tagging Jalen McMillan to do the same.
"McMillan might also see some more work with Marshon Lattimore likely locking up old divisional foe Mike Evans. The rookie WR has also been elite down the stretch and has hit the 50-yard receiving mark in five straight games heading into the playoffs. His routes and snaps took off after Week 12, and now he runs as the No. 2 and could lead this game in yards."
Finally, veteran TE Zach Ertz adds a fine multiplier to haul in a TD.
"(An Ertz) TD is also a dark horse bet here. He has three TDs over his last two games and six scores over his last seven. His role in the red zone has been huge of late with six of his 12 targets over the last two games coming inside the 20. With Terry McLaurin paying a sad +120 for a TD, Ertz is the better bet at +200 or better."
