Super Bowl 58 between the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers is shaping up to be the most-viewed NFL championship game of all-time. NFL odds for the official viewership set by one sportsbook is 117.5 million viewers with the Over heavily juiced. That same book sets the female viewership share at 46.5% thanks to the expected appearance of Taylor Swift.
The game attracts many causal observers who, quite frankly, do not come to talk about the Chiefs’ pursuit of a dynasty or what their Super Bowl odds are. They don’t care about the schematic edge inherent to Christian McCaffrey’s mere presence. If you find yourself watching the game with some of these "fans" you can debate when to kick a field goal or when to go for a fourth down with these kinds of friends, but you will be talking to yourself.
They'll be watching the broadcast just like you, but they won't be as devoted to the action after each snap. Covers' free NFL picks page has you covered on those plays.
Let's break down some of the Super Bowl broadcast markets that casual viewers are more interested in, including some markets I've created myself for the occasion.
What nickname will be said first?
Nickname | Odds |
---|---|
Mr. Irrelevant (Brock Purdy) | -800 |
GOAT (Patrick Mahomes) | +400 |
Odds posted set the mention of Brock Purdy being referred to as “Mr. Irrelevant” at -800 compared to the pondering of Patrick Mahomes as the Greatest of All Time at +400.
There is probably value in that +400, especially when realizing the CBS production truck absolutely already has a graphic ready highlighting Mahomes’s two Super Bowl titles, two Super Bowl MVPs, two regular season MVPs and going No. 10 overall in the 2017 draft.
Either that exact same graphic or the one shown next on the screen will mention Purdy being the last overall draft pick in 2022, and that may be the extent of his accolades shown to dramatize this matchup.
Purdy deserves more than that, of course. In his second year, he has led a team to the Super Bowl. That’s accomplishment enough.
What Las Vegas Landmark will be seen first
Landmark | Odds |
---|---|
Sphere | -150 |
Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas sign | +200 |
Bellagio Fountain | +300 |
Eifel Tower at Paris Las Vegas | +400 |
The official rules on this Super Bowl props market dictate the landmark must be seen between kickoff and the final whistle. While the Sphere may be the favorite, it may serve a bigger purpose for the broadcast than simply serving as a commercial buffer.
A live shot of the Sphere should be used at some point, but footage of the Bellagio Fountains taken earlier on Sunday or earlier in the week could be locked and loaded for any commercial break.
Bonus Super Bowl broadcast markets
All markets beyond this point have been created for entertainment purposes and are not presently available at any sportsbooks.
What will be shown on the Sphere first?
There is no doubt CBS has found its ideal shot of the Sphere to use sometime Sunday night. We could again guess the Before/After, but that would involve delving into sunset times and cloud reports to figure out when it will look best. The sun will set in Las Vegas at 8:17 ET, a bit less than two hours after kickoff, so the most dramatic view may come at halftime. Hey, let’s work that in here.
Sphere graphic | Odds |
---|---|
Generic Super Bowl graphic | +250 |
Replay of a highlight | +260 |
Usher | +300 |
CBS logo | +350 |
Those odds create less than a 3.6% hold by the house, so please recognize Covers' made-up odds are far kinder to the bettor than any sportsbooks.
The Sphere was featured prominently in last weekend’s Grammys broadcast, with U2 presenting an award live from inside the Sphere. By breaking Sphere Entertainment Company off from Madison Square Garden Entertainment back in the spring, advertising for the Sphere became a bit easier. There is no conflict with any of MSG’s other ventures and broadcast channels like CBS.
A highlight on it could be rather cool. It would certainly be different.
When will Taylor Swift be shown on the broadcast?
To make this Taylor Swift prop bet a bit more interesting, let’s rule out pregame. It has to be no earlier than a minute before kickoff.
Logically, it should come after Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce’s first catch. If he takes a hard hit before he makes a reception, then that could be a more dramatic moment.
Time of broadcast | Odds |
---|---|
Travis Kelce's first touchdown | -200 |
Kelce's first catch | +150 |
Other | +900 |
Those crafted odds are influenced by a sportsbook offering actual odds of “What will happen first? A touchdown (-140) or a Taylor Swift live shot (+100).”
Swift will be on the broadcast during the game for less than a minute, if not fewer than 30 seconds. The actually-actionable mark is set at Over/Under 28.5 seconds with the Under carrying -130 juice.
Anyone upset about her appearing on air should also be upset when Jason Sudekis is shown, when the NFL brings out some player of lore for the coin toss, and when McCaffrey’s fiancée Olivia Culpo is mentioned for winning Miss Universe in 2012 — an honor she won in Las Vegas, of all places.
It’s the Super Bowl. It’s hardly about the game. That’s why so many people watch it compared to any other item on television in any given year.
Will any commercial catch you off guard more than Paramount+? No.
Those who spend too much time online, including yours truly, already know what higher levels the Paramount+ commercial reaches. Those online don’t.

Be envious of those who do not know. They still get to experience that reveal for the first time, like a blind man seeing for the first time.
If you are a proper steward of the masses, you will quiet distractions when you first hear Sir Patrick Stewart’s or Tua Tuagovailoa’s voice. Poor Arnold.
