A wager on the projected total is one of the most popular bets for any football game. The Super Bowl odds set the O/U at 48.5 at most sportsbooks.

Super Bowl 59 between the Chiefs and Eagles went Over the projected number with 62 points. The final was Eagles 40, Chiefs 22.

Did the Super Bowl total go Over or Under?

Update: The Super Bowl total went Over with 62 total points.

The 48.5 total for Super Bowl 59 is lower than it was for the Chiefs vs. Eagles matchup from two years ago. That showdown had an Over/Under of 51.5 and went Over with a final score of Chiefs 38 - Eagles 35.

Chiefs and Eagles Over/Under records

Bettors taking the Over for games involving the Chiefs and Eagles this season were not exactly thrilled.

Kansas City played 19 games going into tonight’s game, including playoffs, and their games went Over the total just eight times. Their games went Under 11 times.

Philadelphia had 20 games under its belt heading into Super Bowl 59. It had nine games go Over the total and 11 games go Under.

Super Bowl Over/Under history

Super Bowl points were hard to come by back in the day.

In the 1970s, projected Super Bowl totals were routinely in the 30s, and rightfully so. For instance, Super Bowl VII had a final score of Miami 14 - Washington 7.

Super Bowl XIX between the 49ers and Dolphins had the first “modern” Over/Under. That game had a projected total of 53.5 and the fireworks lived up to the hype. The game went Over with a final score of 49ers 38 - Dolphins 16.

The total has gone Over the projected number in the past two years. Under bettors had a nice little streak going recently, however, as it hit from 2019 - 2022.
